The red and purple Magneto design more than any other he has worn before.

A new Magneto design shared on Instagram by Rolo (@dprimexd), this creator is a published cosplayer who also serves in the military and has been building his cosplay resume with a steady flow of impressive live-action designs that always do their source character’s justice.

With a slew of stellar designs already under his belt — like an MCU-based Black Panther look, an old-school Star-Lord costume, a Lord Drakkon samurai redesign, and more — this Magneto cosplay look may be Rolo’s best yet, showing exactly what kind of suit Ian McKellen deserves to wear in his much-anticipated return to this villainous X-Men character.

Making his silver screen debut in 2000’s X-Men, Ian McKellen, alongside X-Men: First Class’ Michael Fassbender, are the only two actors who have portrayed Erik Lehnsherr in the live-action space, with McKellen’s take on this iconic X-Men villain setting the look and tone for the character in film for almost three decades running. Unfortunately for fans, McKellen has never worn Magneto’s signature red and purple costume on-screen (though some of his designs have taken after it), with Fassbender at least getting to tease this comic-accurate look at the tail end of X-Men: First Class, never to be seen again.

Confirming that multiple X-Men hailing from 20th Century Fox’s era of movies — including Ian McKellen’s Magneto, James Marsden’s Cyclops, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Alan Cummings’ Nightcrawler, Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, and more — will be making a return in Avengers: Doomsday, the fact that McKellen has yet to wear a comic-accurate red and purple Magneto costume is a travesty that needs to be corrected, with his next live-action appearance giving him the perfect opportunity to do so. Until then, Rolo’s (@dprimexd) Magneto cosplay is the perfect way to tide fans over for what is sure to be an epic X-Men moviegoing experience.
