Summary

  • Daredevil will be returning to his classic red suit in Marvel's Echo, after briefly wearing a yellow and red suit in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. This change likely signifies a shift in tone and a return to the character's more serious and mature portrayal.
  • Echo, unlike She-Hulk, is expected to be a darker and more intense show, reflecting the character's brutal journey to break free from Wilson Fisk's influence. It makes sense for Daredevil to don his more serious costume in this context, aligning with the show's tone and the popularity of the Netflix version of the character.
  • There is a possibility that Daredevil could receive another new suit in his reboot series, Daredevil: Born Again, though hopefully his classic red look will remain intact with some minor upgrades. Marvel Studios has a history of changing costumes for future appearances, but it would be best to maintain the familiarity and success of Daredevil's previous iteration.

Matt Murdock will be experiencing a major change ahead of his Marvel's She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

Played by actor Charlie Cox, Matt Murdock first appeared in Netflix's Daredevil which ran for three seasons but was later canceled with the end of Marvel Television thanks to the emergence of Disney+. However, Murdock did return as Peter Parker's lawyer in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home as well in 2022's She-Hulk: Attorney where he returned as Daredevil, teaming up with Jennifer Walters (while also becoming a romantic interest). However, Daredevil's next appearance in Echo is coming with an exciting change, one that will likely continue heading into his rebooted series Daredevil: Born Again.

Daredevil Already Has A New Costume In The MCU

From Yellow Back to Classic Red

Charlie Cox's Daredevil in Marvel's Echo Show

In Marvel's She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Daredevil returned to the MCU wearing a brand-new costume. Resembling Daredevil's very first costume in the original comics, the new suit was predominantly yellow with red being a secondary color. This was opposed to more well-known all red costume he wore in his Netflix show and most frequently on the page. Having been designed by LA fashion designer Luke Jacobson specializing in super-suits, Daredevil's new suit helped explained Murdock's presence on the West Coast as opposed to New York and Hell's Kitchen. Likewise, representing Luke in court also brought him in with Jennifer Walters, herself a lawyer by day as well.

However, it looks as though Daredevil will be returning to his all red suit in Marvel's Echo. There's a brief shot in the trailer where Murdock is seen fighting the titular Maya Lopez, most likely due to her connection with Wilson Fisk's Kingpin (Vincent D'onofrio), Murdock's greatest enemy. As such, it certainly looks as though the yellow and red suit was simply a one-off for the MCU.

Why Daredevil Is Wearing A Different Suit In Marvel's Echo Show

Echo Has A Very Different Tone

Echo Maya Lopez Matt Murdock Netflix Daredevil canon or not

It's worth noting that Echo appears to be a very different show compared to the comedy-driven She-Hulk. Showcasing the dark upbringing of Maya Lopez and her vendetta against Fisk for orchestrating the death of her father as seen in Marvel's Hawkeye, Echo looks to be quite brutal as Maya fights to break free of The Kingpin's influence, no longer wanting to be an echo of Fisk himself. As such, it makes sense that Daredevil is returning to his more serious and toned-done costume with his MCU appearance.

As evidenced by the trailer, it certainly seems as though Echo will be the closet MCU project resembling the more mature and violent Netflix shows. To that end, it's to Marvel Studios' benefit to put Murdock back in his classic threads, especially considering how popular the Netflix show was along with both Cox and D'onofrio reprising their roles. While it was a nice homage to his first appearance in the comics in light of Daredevil's big return to the MCU, the yellow suit is too bright and flashy. Going back to the red makes perfect sense considering Echo's more intense tone (releasing as Marvel Studios' first TV-MA project).

Will Daredevil Get Another New Suit Before His Show Born Again?

Daredevil May Evolve Again In The MCU

MCU Daredevil in both of his main costumes

While it remains to be seen if Matt Murdock will receive another new suit for Daredevil: Born Again, it's certainly a possibility for the MCU reboot series. There's something to be said for keeping Daredevil's classic and very popular look as it was seen in his previous Netflix show. However, Marvel Studios does have a track record for switching up costumes ahead of new appearances (even when they arguably shouldn't).

Ms. Marvel's costume in the MCU is a prime example of having a costume that shouldn't have been messed with simply because of a future appearance. The costume made for her own Ms. Marvel series had so much narrative significance and comic-accuracy compared to the suit she'll be wearing in The Marvels. Keeping that in mind, the hope would be that Daredevil's suit wouldn't change again after Echo simply because of a new project. Perhaps the all red color can stay while the suit itself is upgraded for Daredevil: Born Again, providing Murdock with an evolution that isn't too outside the box.
