Marvel's and mutants with extraordinary powers. Avengers #32 suggests that in the far future, the other teams of Earth - and space - will band together to establish an entire Avengers World.
Marvel's Avengers have ventured into the far future before, but their journeys are usually fraught with peril and often end in a dystopian future they must eliminate from the timeline. Most of those adventures involve Kang the Conqueror, a time-traveling villain with a mastery of time travel unlike many others. Most recently, Captain Marvel traveled into the future in 2021, only to see many of her fellow Avengers deceased in a future ruled by Ove, the son of Namor and the Enchantress. But Avengers #32 takes place over an astounding 5,000 years in the future.
In Avengers #32, written by Jonathan Hickman with art by Leinil Francis Yu, Captain America is met by Franklin Richards, who brings Captain America to space. There, the two witness a massive artificial planetoid: Avengers World. In the future, Earth's solar system is protected by this world and four major groups in addition to the Avengers: "The Imperial Academy, the United Universal Houses of the Inhumans, and the Atemporal Architects of SHIELD...protect and police the known universes." These four groups make up the new Avengers of the distant future - and one is quite a surprising addition.
The Avengers, SHIELD, Shi'ar and Inhumans Protect Marvel's Far Future
The Avengers, of SHIELD and the Inhumans all hail from Earth, but the Shi'ar Empire does not. This intergalactic collection of species is perhaps best known for appearing in X-Men books, primarily the Dark Phoenix Saga, in which Jean Grey was judged by the Empire for her crimes (she obliterated a star, which in turn destroyed a planet and billions of inhabitants living on its surface). Evidentially, the 5000 years of growth between Earth and the Shi'ar Empire have resulted in peace between societies on an intergalactic scale.
It is also important to note that this issue was written during Marvel's massive Inhumans franchise push of the 2010s. While the team is powerful, they are not necessarily as powerful as the X-Men or other mutant-based teams, but the Inhumans received prominence in Marvel media for some time (at least until 2017). Regardless, the Avengers, Inhumans, SHIELD and Shi'ar Empire play a pivotal role five thousand years into Marvel's future - and if this potential future becomes a reality, it is proof that peace on Earth (and beyond) is possible.
