Following the announcement of a new former Uncharted director-writer Amy Hennig. Earlier this year, she ed Hollywood studio Skydance to form its new gaming division after working with Dead Space developer Visceral Games on an ultimately canceled Star Wars game.
Marvel has seen an increase in the scope and quality of its licensed games in recent years, thanks to success stories like Insomniac Games’ rumors about a new Daredevil game. It’s still no clearer which Marvel character(s) Skydance will adapting in its game, but a talented voice actress has now teased her role in the project.
Following its announcement, Star Wars Battlefront 2 star Janina Gavankar excitedly confirmed she is part of Skydance New Media’s Marvel game on Twitter. Speaking to followers, Gavankar cheerfully remarked how lucky she is to be a part of Amy Hennig’s “narrative-driven, blockbuster action-adventure" Marvel title, though she naturally remained tight-lipped about what role she will be playing or what the game will be about.
In Star Wars Battlefront 2, Janina Gavankar performed the voice and motion capture for protagonist Iden Versio, an elite Imperial pilot who defects to the New Republic during the events of Star Wars: Battlefront II’s story campaign. Outside of Star Wars, Gavankar is trained as a musician and has lent her voice to games like Far Cry 4, Horizon Zero Dawn’s The Frozen Wilds DLC, and Night School Studio’s 2019 adventure title Afterparty. Her most recent gaming voice role is that of Tanta Sila in the PlayStation 5 RPG Forespoken, which is set to launch sometime in 2022.
It remains a mystery which Marvel character Gavankar could be playing in Skydance New Media’s untitled Marvel game, but her involvement is exciting news for fans of her past work in Star Wars: Battlefront 2. Marvel’s recent video game efforts have drawn in increasingly high-caliber gaming industry talent, from heavyweight developers like Insomniac and Eidos-Montreal to high-profile figures like Uncharted’s Amy Hennig, and it seems like this acquisition of big names isn't slowing down anytime soon.
