Warning! Spoilers for Free Comic Book Day Spider-Man/Venom Special #1
As Eddie Brock continues his quest to clean up the damage the original Venom. In the recent Free Comic Book Day Spider-Man/Venom Special #1, Marvel Comics revealed the King in Black is in space, as his son Dylan is struggling without him on Earth.
The God of Symbiotes ravaged the Marvel Universe as he invaded Earth with his alien army, nearly changing the planet into his own image. However, Eddie Brock's Venom became powerful enough to defeat the King in Black after using the Enigma Force and saved the day as it seemed all hope was lost. After the victory, Eddie agreed to become the new King in Black and help clean up the damage Knull caused. Meanwhile, his son Dylan took on the mantle of Venom. But, unfortunately, readers just learned the transition for the younger Brock isn't going as smooth as one would hope.
In Free Comic Book Day Spider-Man/Venom Special #1 by Al Ewing, Ram V., Bryan Hitch, Andrew Currie, Alex Sinclair, and VC's Clayton Cowles, a preview for the next Venom arc is revealed. Dylan is being hunted by military-like forces, leaving the antihero to become frustrated with his current situation. Dylan's symbiote tells him the situation is exactly what Eddie warned him about, but staying, and fighting won't bring him back. After reiterating that Eddie is gone, Dylan breaks down and tells his symbiote to shut up - pleading with it to stop "telling me what to do."
After screaming out, "you're not my dad," to his symbiote, the comic cuts to Eddie Brock, who's deep within space cleaning up the old King in Black's mess. In an effort to make sure nobody fears symbiotes again, Eddie wants to help the planets which suffered the greatest from Knull's deadly attack. It's a challenging predicament for everyone involved, as Dylan needs his father, but the King in Black's attention can't be focused on his son when there's so much chaos left in the wake of the God of Symbiotes' attack.
Dylan seems to be struggling with his new role in the Marvel Universe, especially so without his dad guiding him along the way. But, as the King in Black, Eddie Brock has massive responsibilities, even more so as he tries to rehabilitate the image of the symbiotes across the galaxy while cleaning up Knull's mess. Still, abandoning Dylan - who grew up without his father - might fracture what was becoming a strong relationship - especially as he struggles to be Venom. Free Comic Book Day Spider-Man/Venom Special #1 is in comic book stores now.
