As the two major cinematic comic book franchises, both the comparing everything about them, from the characters to the leading actors, and even the superhero's costumes.

But what if, instead of having them fight each other, these two universes got together in something more romantic? After all, there are more than a few couples that make absolute sense and would be a real force to reckon with. And while not all the possible pairings would work, there is the chance that these two competing franchises might actually give fans some of the best pairings in cinema.

Wouldn't Work: Batman & Nebula

batman and nebula

Two traumatized souls can find solace in each other, that's for sure. However, when those two souls have more than their share of demons, the relationship can quickly turn toxic. This is what would most likely occur if Batman and Nebula ever tried to get together.

She's still reckoning with her torturous past, and while she's turned over a new leaf, there's still plenty of issues she has to resolve before entering any kind of relationship. As for Batman, vigilantism will always come first for him, making any kind of real and meaningful connection in his personal life, all the harder to achieve.

Would Work: Aquaman & Gamora

aquaman and gamora

These two would be explosive together, in a good way. Gamora and Aquaman already had their fair share of adventures and could easily bond through their many battle stories. They share antagonistic, yet ultimately redeemable relationships with their siblings, a desire to protect those in need, and equally strong tempers that hide a much kinder and softer side.

At its core, though, their relationship would be grounded on the fact they understand each other. After all, she is a Guardian of the Galaxy while he is the King of the Sea. Both of them know what it feels like to have a burden rest on their shoulders.

Wouldn't Work: Iron Man & Harley Quinn

iron man and harley quinn

Tony Stark is quite egotistical, and even a tad eccentric, but he's got nothing on miss Harley Quinn. Indeed, Tony wouldn't be able to keep up with any of her lunatic antics and would probably be scared of them, and her. For her part, Harley might appreciate the consistency and security of someone like Tony, but eventually, her wild side would make her pursue the danger and recklessness she's used to.

These two don't make any sense, in any form. Perhaps they could have a very brief affair, but they're so fundamentally different, that any kind of relationship between them would crash and burn before it got the chance to even begin.

Would Work: Captain Marvel & Huntress

Tough, aggressive, and domineering, needs someone equally hardened to be by her side, and who fits the bill better than Helena Bertinelli? The Huntress is as tough as they come, overcoming an incredibly difficult childhood and becoming an angel of justice.

Carol would be able to connect with Helena as she, too, was seen to have a difficult childhood and had a strained relationship with her parents. It's likely that they would share mutual respect and iration for each other, especially as they would do whatever it takes to make sure justice is served - even if it means breaking a few laws along the way.

Wouldn't Work: Nick Fury & Amanda Waller

nick fury and amanda waller films

Two Alphas are bound to clash against each other. In Nick Fury and Amanda Waller's case, however, the fight goes beyond who's in control of the relationship. Waller's cold and cruel personality goes against everything Fury stands for. Her disregard for human life and calculating approach to her missions stand in stark contrast to Fury's more humane and empathetic approach.

In the end, their relationship would collapse. Waller would have no patience for Fury's character and he, too, could never trust her completely. If they ever split up, they probably likely to have each other on their respective "Dangerous Subjects" lists.

Would Work: Captain America & Wonder Woman

Dutiful, committed, kind-hearted, and brave, Captain America and Wonder Woman are made for each other. They understand one another, perhaps more than any two people in the world, being outsiders who are thrown into an entirely new world. They both lost their first loves to time and have been mourning ever since.

This relationship wouldn't be easy at first. They are both guarded and very reserved people. However, little by little, the two would help each other find the right balance. Her incredible faith and positivity would strike a chord with Cap's own willingness to believe, and the two would become an unstoppable force for good.

Wouldn't Work: Rick Flag & Okoye

rick flag and okoye

Okoye is honorable, loyal, and brave. She's deeply committed to Wakanda and her King, and is guided by a firm and unwavering sense of duty. Rick Flag operates from a distinctively greyer moral zone and is willing to do things that would certainly not sit well with the Dora Milaje General.

They might try to make things work, but, in the end, it's clear they aren't a good fit. She is far more engaged to her job and responsibilities than she is to the relationship, and can't see past Flag's questionable line of work. Not to mention how Flag can sometimes fail in fulfilling a mission. If he had been involved in Endgame, there's a chance he would have put his own selfish needs above everyone else's.

Would Work: Flash & Quicksilver

quicksilver and flash

At first glance, Barry Allen and Pietro Maximoff might not have that much in common. Indeed, their personalities are wildly different, and their way of dealing with things couldn't be further apart. However, as the old saying goes, opposites attract. Barry's energetic and chaotic personality would prove to be a nice foil for Pietro's drier and more cynical approach.

Their tragic pasts may have branded them, but together, they could slowly learn how to move past the trauma and the hurt. There is also the chance that the audiences would see them constantly racing against one another - which would provide much comic relief in scenes that get really intense.

Wouldn't Work: Cyborg & Wanda

cyborg and wanda

Just because Wanda could make a relationship with one android work, doesn't mean lightning will strike twice. Cyborg, being a lot younger, is also less mature. He's just discovering the true extent of his powers, slowly coming to with his new and strange reality. Wanda too is only just realizing just how powerful she really is herself.

These two need a partner that can provide the stability that they sorely lack in their own personal lives. Sadly, they aren't that for each other. And while they share a real connection because of their uniqueness, in the end, they discover that they're better suited to as great friends more than problematic lovers.

Would Work: Superman & Black Widow

Would Work Superman & Black Widow

On the surface, it may look like a random pairing. However, if fans of both franchises take a closer look, they would recognize that these two have a lot more in common. Out of all the characters in their respective franchises, these two have proven to be the most selfless and altruistic of all. They willingly put their lives on the line to ensure that their friends (and humanity) would be safe.

These two would slowly build a real connection as they would bond over their "outsider" status as well as the walls they build around their real selves. In each other's presence, they would never feel truly alone and would work together to ensure the world was a happier and safer place.
