The entire TV model of the Marvel Cinematic Universe from Marvel Studios is going through an overhaul following multiple behind-the-scenes issues that have affected recent Disney+ shows. While Matt Murdock is still coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it will take longer than expected as Daredevil: Born Again is starting over.
Why Marvel Resetting The MCU's TV Process Is A Good Thing
While the changes being made to Marvel Studios' productions like the highly-anticipated Daredevil: Born Again may be viewed in a negative light, this reset is actually a good sign for the future of the franchise. In moving away from TV productions that feel like stretched-out, overblown, and therefore thin movie scripts, Marvel's TV shows will now feel more like traditional long-form storytelling. This will absolve future MCU Disney+ shows of the issues that have plagued several installments like She-Hulk, Moon Knight, and most prominently Secret Invasion. THR's report highlights the various issues that have affected these shows beginning as early as 2022's Moon Knight.
It was no secret that show creator and writer Jeremy Slater quit and was replaced by director Mohamed Diab, a similar situation to She-Hulk sidelining Jessica Gao - who developed and wrote the show - in favor of director Kat Coiro. This caused conflicting tones in both shows and highlights the unorthodox way the MCU developed TV shows. Affected the worst was Secret Invasion with multiple directors, writers, and creators being completely removed and replaced mid-production. This led to Marvel’s worst-reviewed MCU show yet, something that the overhaul and reversion to more structured, writer-based productions common with TV shows will help the MCU avoid in the future.
