Cassie Lang's superhero upgrade in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has been a long time coming, as Marvel has been laying the groundwork for this transformation for years. The most direct tease of Ant-Man and the Wasp when she talked to Scott about needing a partner. While Scott mistook the line to be about Hope van Dyne, Cassie clarified that she wants to be her father's crime-fighting partner, so they can do good together. It was a direct tease by Marvel that Cassie Lang would be a superhero and one day begin her path to ing the Young Avengers.

Marvel further set up Cassie Lang to become a Marvel superhero once it was announced that Kathryn Newton was taking over the role for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. After casting Emma Fuhrmann in Avengers: Endgame, many were surprised to see Marvel recast Cassie Lang again. Kathryn Newton is a much more established actress and rising star thanks to roles in Freaky and Pokémon: Detective Pikachu. Cassie Lang's prominent role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania creates the possibility for the Young Avengers to form. The movie featuring Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) as the villain might this possibility, as Kang is one of the team's earliest villains in the comics. This is due to a younger Nathanial Richards becoming Iron Lad and helping create the Young Avengers, which is not certain to happen in the MCU.
