Travel to the near future where chaos rules as Pete-Skull transforms Duckburg into a super-hero-less wasteland. Only Old Donald Duck can turn the tide, but he's given up his battling days and prefers naps and his grandma’s apple pie over fighting villains. But when Mickey-Hawkeye comes knocking at the door with Goofy-Hulk at his side, Wolverine-Donald has to make a choice! Will a trip down memory lane change his mind to save the world? Or will the lure of the backyard hammock and a long nap keep him from popping his claws one last time? |
Inspired by the classic story Old Man Logan, this tale won't just feature Donald-Wolverine, but a cast filled with dozens of Disney / Marvel amalgam characters such as Mickey-Hawkeye and Goofy-Hulk. The one-shot will also take readers on a comical and innovative journey through Donald-Wolverine's fictitious history.
Marvel and Disney Give Old Man Logan a Donald Duck Makeover
One of the biggest changes in Marvel Comics history occurred in 2009 when Marvel Entertainment was acquired by Disney, sending shock waves through the comic book community. Disney's purchase paid off as the Marvel Cinematic Universe became a cornerstone of the Disney empire. Aside from a few promotional endeavors, there were rarely any crossovers between Disney's classic characters and the Marvel heroes. However, things changed when Disney celebrated its 100th anniversary with a series of What If...?-inspired covers that saw characters like Mickey Mouse dres like Spider-Man and re-creating some of the most famous Marvel Comics covers.
The last few months have seen Disney and Marvel Comics collaborating more and even creating full-fledged stories. Earlier this year, Disney announced Marvel Comics would be releasing Uncle $crooge and the Infinity Dime #1, a one-shot that would see Disney's adventurous miser exploring the multiverse. Marvel & Disney: What If...? Donald Duck Became Wolverine #1 is a bit more ambitious and looks to embrace the absurdity of amalgamating Disney and Marvel's characters. With Marvel Comics and Disney making it clear that future collaborations are coming, fans can start getting prepared for what other out-there fusions are coming down the pipeline.
Uncle $crooge and the Infinity Dime #1 will be available from Marvel Comics June 19th!
Donald-Wolverine is Just the Beginning of Marvel and Disney's Crossovers
Fusing Marvel and Disney characters to create offbeat things like Donald-Wolverine might be unconventional, but it’s hard to say it’s not an entertaining prospect. Marvel and Disney have some of the most identifiable characters in the world and bringing them together to create wild stories like this is what comics are all about. Who knows what other kinds of crossovers Marvel and Disney have coming up later? But having Donald Duck re-create one of the most famous Wolverine stories is something that could make for quite the entertaining one-shot.
Marvel & Disney: What If...? Donald Duck Became Wolverine #1 is available from Marvel Comics on July 31st.
