Warning! This post contains a PREVIEW for Murderworld: Spider-Man #1

A new preview for Marvel Comics' Murderworld event reveals the true horror of Spider-Man and his Sider-Verse allies. While Spider-Man and his abilities are often depicted with brightness to match his light personality, the new Murderworld: Spider-Man #1 reveals just how scary those same powers can be. Thanks to the villain Arcade who's created an army of robots resembling various heroes in the Marvel Universe, it's revealed that he was an entire jungle filled with Spider-Verse heroes, ready to be unleashed at his command.

In Marvel's Murderworld, a collection of contestants have been unwittingly selected to participate in a series of games and challenges that are far more deadly than any of them realized. Think Marvel's version of Netflix's Squid Game. Now, the new Murderworld: Spider-Man #1 from Ray Fawkes, Jim Zub, and Farid Karami sees several participants being picked off "just like flies" by Arcade's various Spider heroes. Here are the preview pages and the synopsis for the issue:

Arcade Unleashes His Own Spider-Verse Army in Murderworld

  • MURDERWORLD: SPIDER-MAN #1
  • MURDERWORLD, PART 2: JUST LIKE FLIES The Murderworld stream will not be stopped and, as its dwindling contestants grow more desperate, the wall-crawling web of death surrounding them begins to tighten—thwip, thwip… Murderworld is a chaotic contest filled with treachery and tragedy from the minds of Ray Fawkes (One Soul, Constantine) and Jim Zub (Conan the Barbarian, AVENGERS) illustrated by Farid Karami. Arcade and his schemes have been a punchline in the past, but this game is no laughing matter. Each issue ups the ante and will keep readers guessing right up until the end. Don’t miss it!

Featuring several different Spider heroes beyond just Peter Parker, Arcade has built a plethora of Spider-Verse all-stars such as the Superior Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Spider-Gwen, Scarlet Spider, Symbiote Spider-Man, Miles Morales, Iron Spider, and more. Likewise, the way they pull their victims up into the trees is incredibly horrifying, especially the first contestant who gets pulled up by his mouth with his screams being silenced by Spider-Man's webbing. Picking them off one by one, it seems as though there's only one player who's smart enough to stay as quiet as she can, hoping to not be noticed during the Spider-Verse slaughter.

Although Murderworld promises to feature far more heroes than just those who belong to the Spider-Verse, this issue will no doubt prove just how formidable and downright deadly Spider-Man and his allies could be if they really wanted to. Their strength, agility, webbing, and wall-sticking all help make them the perfect hunters. Not to mention their spider-sense which can help them counter any attempts their victims may make to fight back.

Based on this preview alone, it's clear that Spider-Man has not only great power, but also deadly power. The Marvel Universe should be thankful that he and the majority of his fellow spiders use that power responsibly and not as vicious killers. The full Murderworld: Spider-Man #1 releases December 28th from Marvel Comics.
