While still in its closed beta test, Marvel Rivals has already developed a respectable roster of heroes and villains. Players can play as iconic heroes like Spider-Man, lovable sidekicks like Jeff The Land Shark, and deadly villains like Magneto. While they will likely play differently in the full release, beta testers have already ranked each character's kit and play style.

There are currently twenty-three characters available in the closed beta test: Adam Warlock, Black Panther, Bruce Banner, Doctor Strange, Groot, Hela, Iron Man, Jeff the Land Shark, Loki, Luna Snow, Magik, Magneto, Mantis, Namor, Peni Parker, Punisher, Rocket Raccoon, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Storm, Thor, and Venom.

All S-Tier Marvel Rivals Characters

Every Character's Kits Explained

While rankings are bound to bounce as Marvel Rivals reaches its initial launch date and balances all the characters, some heroes and antiheroes have risen to the top of the pack as S-Tier characters. Most characters have their strengths and uses in a fight, but when looking for the strongest in the game, try Doctor Strange, Mantis, Luna Snow, Scarlet Witch, or The Punisher.

Doctor Strange may just be the strongest character in Marvel Rivals, to the surprise of long-time Marvel fans. He is a Vanguard, the game's term for a tank. Doctor Strange can create portals across the map, teleporting allies directly to their targets and enemies to their doom. He pools Dark Magic with each hit, eventually pouring it out onto enemies again. With flight, shielding, and long-range attacks, stopping the Sorcerer Supreme is hard.

Mantis is a Strategist, the /healing role in Marvel Rivals. Her build is actually quite similar to Ana from Overwatch 2, the game's biggest rival. Just as Mantis heals her teammates over time, she can put her rivals to sleep for ten seconds. Her other abilities allow her to provide a Damage Boost by spending her life orbs. She's set to be one of the best units in Marvel Rivals.

Luna Snow is a new hero created in the last decade, but as another Strategist, she may find her place among Marvel's legends. She continues to heal allies and hurt enemies, but her biggest ability, Share the Stage, lets her continue to heal one ally even while they are out of her sight. This allows her to focus on other allies while the heavy hitters charge into the fray. She moves fast, skating through the map and dishing out help and harm equally.

Scarlet Witch wields her chaos magic as a Duelist, a well-rounded damage-dealing class of characters in Marvel Rivals. Her basic attacks charge up explosive magic missiles. Even better, your powerful ability can stun your enemies before you tear into them. Her flight makes her quite mobile, while her diverse abilities make her easy to wield against the enemy team.

Lastly, in the S-tier category, we have Punisher, a Duelist who can switch between an automatic rifle and a shotgun. And those are just his basic attacks! His abilities also give him a grappling hook, a smoke grenade, and a turret. He'll even briefly retain sight of enemies after they slip behind a wall or obstacle. He may not have superpowers, but he easily holds his own in Marvel Rivals.

Marvel Rivals closed beta playtest keyart from console trailer, including characters Venom, Magneto, Peni Parker, Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, and Storm

Very few characters in Marvel Rivals can be considered poorly built at this development point. Fans have found something to praise in every character, even if some are better. Some A-tier characters border on S-tier but need a bit of practice or the right circumstances to fully master. B-tier characters are more niche but have their moments to shine. C-tier, meanwhile, can be tricky to use effectively.
