May 22, 2025, sees a new update released in Marvel Rivals, introducing the last major cosmetic additions and gameplay changes before Season 2.5 drops next week. Multiple features and fixes seen in this update are in preparation for the halfway point of the Hellfire Gala season. As a result, the ongoing event has also been adjusted, creating a lot of changes that might surprise players at first.

The newest patch for Marvel Rivals is mostly focused on quality of life changes, especially regarding player expression and structural bugs. The update drops at 9:00 AM UTC local time, with servers staying online and not shutting down for maintenance to accommodate the patch. All you have to do is update your game normally to add all the changes being brought into the hero shooter.

Everything Added To The Store In The Latest Patch

Grab Two New And Two Returning Legendary Skins

Marvel Rivals Immortal Avatar and Immortal Sovereign Scarlet Witch skins from May 22 Patch update

The biggest highlight from the May 22 patch is the inclusion of two new skins for Adam Warlock and the Scarlet Witch. However, this patch also continues the trend of Marvel Rivals bringing back Season 0 content to the game for a limited time. Two former skins are, as of this time of writing, rumored to return to the in-game Store alongside the fresh Season 2 skins.

The Season 0 Battle in Marvel Rivals is also available for you to purchase in Season 2 as part of the 1-year anniversary of the game. However, much like the returning Season 0 skins, the Battle will only be around for a short time.

Some of these skins not only change the look of their characters, but also modify different sound effects for their abilities and Ultimate. Each skin comes with a full Bundle, including the Costume, an MVP animation, an Emote, a Nameplate, and a Spray all resembling the altered look's unique aesthetic. The Adam Warlock and Scarlet Witch skins will be in the "Featured" section of the Store as they release.

Depending on which region you live in, these skins could drop at different times. For example, the earliest time when these skins appear in the Store is on May 22, 2025, at 7:00 PM US Pacific time, but those in Japan or Korea timezones will have to wait until May 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM to see these costumes show up.

All Event Changes From The Patch

Continue Playing Through The Hellfire Gala At Your Own Pace

One large change from the May 22 Patch is that the Hellfire Gala: Moments event in Marvel Rivals has been extended. The seasonal event's end time has been pushed back to May 30, 2025, giving players one more week to earn every reward from it. With three long Acts of the event to progress through, this is a welcome change for players who have few opportunities to complete missions for the event.

Extending the Hellfire: Gala Moments event gives players more time to vote in Act 3 of the event for which character is "best dressed" at the Krakoa celebration. Whichever character wins this vote will receive a new skin for the 2026 Hellfire Gala next year.

The extra week of time given to the Hellfire Gala: Moments event gives players more time to claim its main reward - the free Wolverine Patch costume. This sleek design for arguably the most famous X-Men won't be available when the event ends, but you have to finish all three Acts of the Gala to earn it.

Every System & Character Adjustments

More Player Customization Options And Several Hero Fixes

Marvel Rivals Emma Frost and Doctor Strange with Multiverse of Madness skin MVP

Beyond just simple map structure modifications to fix bugs, the May 22 patch includes some system changes that alter the player experience. Some of these changes include:

  • The in-game Store's first pages are now set for "New Arrivals" and "Recommended" skins first.
  • Players have an option to use Default costume voices in their Audio settings.
  • Up to 5 Sprays can be placed on the battlefield by a player at any time.

These new features come with small system fixes, such as issues with Rank placements in Marvel Rivals' Competitive mode, tournament s, spectator mode, and hero switching. However, the most interesting adjustments come from slight hero changes. The table below goes over every hero that got modified in the May 22 Patch:

Character

Role

Patch Changes

Doctor Strange

Vanguard

A bug that caused The Human Torch's primary attack to glitch out and change due to Doctor Strange's Ultimate no longer takes place.

Mantis

Strategist

Heroes impacted and stunned by Mantis' Spore Slumber ability no longer remain stunned after taking a hit. A bug no longer causes characters to be perpetually locked down this way.

Emma Frost

Vanguard

Bugs causing Emma Frost's textures to glitch when she shifted into her Diamond Form no longer occur.

Mister Fantastic

Duelist

When Mister Fantastic uses Flexible Elongation to travel through Doctor Strange's portal, he no longer veers off in the wrong direction or fails to go through the portal entirely.

In addition to these small bug corrections for different characters, a console UI change from the May 22 patch makes it easier to distinguish different in-game items from each other. Players will no longer be confused by the overlap between Chrono Shields and Chrono Shield Cards introduced in the Galacta's Gift event for Marvel Rivals.
