Team-Up abilities are receiving many changes in Marvel Rivals when Season 2 drops, including new synergies, adjustments to old ones, and even some pairings removed entirely. Some characters have also been shifted from one Team-Up to another, impacting who they work best with. These changes will shake up the composition of great teams as players discover which characters have the best connections.

With Season 3's quickened character release schedule in the future, Team-Ups are likely to become more abundant down the line. On the other hand, Season 2 is removing some Team-Up abilities already present in Marvel Rivals, keeping the number of synergies limited. The developers have already stated that they do not want Team-Ups to add up too fast, so expect more to be eliminated in Seasons.

Which Team-Up Abilities Are Going Away?

Say Goodbye To Familiar Synergies

When Season 2 drops on April 11, 2025, two Team-Ups will be removed, including:

  • Metallic Chaos (Magneto + Scarlet Witch)
  • Voltaic Union (Thor + Captain America or Storm)

These Team-Up abilities in Marvel Rivals will no longer activate when the characters involved with them are selected before a match. Since Team-Ups are determined by anchors, both Scarlet Witch and Thor to lose out on some unique synergies that form a strong team comp. For example, Magneto can no longer create a large sword that fires magical projectiles from his Scarlet Witch Team-Up, greatly reducing his damage potential.

With Season 2 of Marvel Rivals, several changes to its Competitive mode are coming, from shifting ranks to the inclusion of a new map for matches.

The character that has the most to lose from these Team-Up removals is Captain America. Thor and Storm both have multiple Team-Ups they retain in Season 2, with Thor still having a connection to Hela while Storm can pair her Ultimate with The Human Torch's. Although Captain America gets a new Team-Up in Season 2, his lost pairing with Thor prevents him from increasing the lackluster damage of his shield strikes.

Every New Team-Up Ability In Season 2

Create Fresh Connections With New Characters

Multiple new Team-Ups are being added in Season 2 to make up for the ones lost. With the inclusion of new characters like Emma Frost in Marvel Rivals, the strength of some new Team-Ups is yet to be determined as players experiment with different character pairings. There are three new Team-Ups arriving in Season 2, including:

  • Arcane Order (Doctor Strange + Scarlet Witch)
  • Stars Aligned (Captain America + Winter Soldier)
  • Mental Projection (Emma Frost + Magneto or Psylocke)

The first Team-Up sees Doctor Strange act as an anchor to Scarlet Witch, lending his mastery of the mystic arts to the chaos wielder. While this Team-Up is active, Scarlet Witch's Chthonian Burst ability is replaced with Magic Burst, a new ability. By activating this new move, Scarlet Witch goes into a state where she can hold the attack button to unleash multiple magical missiles to a target for a limited time.

Stars Aligned is a unique Season 2 Team-Up for Captain American and Winter Soldier, with the leader of the Avengers acting as the anchor. While active, Winter Soldier and Captain America can activate a new ability called Stellar Impact, where both characters can confirm an interaction before slamming into each other. This creates a large shockwave on impact, dealing damage and slowing down nearby enemies.

When Captain America and Winter Soldier are on a team together in Season 2, the Winter Soldier can also use a new ability in addition to Stellar Impact. This new ability allows Winter Soldier to leap forward toward an ally, slamming the ground with his mechanical arm to deal damage to any enemies near the spot where he lands.

The final new Team-Up only appears when Emma Frost is used as an anchor. Magneto or Psylocke can call on the Hellfire Gala's organizer to create illusory projections of themselves similar to Loki's clones in Marvel Rivals. These Duplicate Illusions can cast abilities on their own, confusing opponents while causing offensive and defensive abilities to activate twice, once on the original character and again through the Mental Projection.

Every Existing Team-Up That's Changed In Season 2

Fewer Characters Together And New Additions To Classic Pairings

Marvel Rivals Team-Up ability changes from Season 2

Along with new and removed Team-Ups, several existing synergies are being adjusted in Season 2. Four Team-Ups will receive changes by adding or dropping characters to their groupings, altering who can take advantage of certain team comps. For example, some Team-Ups add characters to grant them a new ability when paired together, while others lose any benefits tied to an anchor being present.

Marvel Rivals: How To Pick The Best Vanguard (Team Comp Guide)

Vanguards are arguably the most important role on a team comp in Marvel Rivals, but it can be hard to pick the "right" character in various scenarios.

The following table goes over which Team-Ups change in Season 2, what characters they now include, and if any new abilities or effects have been included as a result of their adjustments:

Team-Up

Characters

Removed Or Added Characters

Changed Effects

Dimensional Shortcut

  • Magik
  • Black Panther

Removed - Psylocke

None, the Team-Up remains the same with the currents still capable of activating it.

Ammo Overload

  • Rocket Racoon
  • The Punisher

Removed - Winter Soldier

None, the Team-Up remains the same with the currents still capable of activating it.

Chilling Charisma

  • Luna Snow
  • Jeff the Land Shark

Removed - Namor

None, the Team-Up remains the same with the currents still capable of activating it.

Gamma Charge

  • Hulk
  • Iron Man

Added - Namor, Removed - Doctor Strange

Namor's squid turrets now shoot a homing beam of gamma energy to automatically target enemies.

The removal of characters from Team-Ups widens the possibility for more unique teams, as there are fewer characters available for certain pairings. Without having to dedicate three out of the six slots on your team to complete a Team-Up, you and your allies can create diverse comps for your next match.

Many Team-Ups are not changing in Season 2, so you will still have familiar synergies to go back to even if the changes for Season 2 dismantle your normal strategies.

Thankfully, characters removed from certain Team-Ups still have other synergies in the game. For example, Psylocke now has the Mental Projection Team-Up with Emma Frost in Season 2, while Winter Soldier has the Captain America pairing to make up for his loss of Ammo Overload. The inclusion of new Team-Ups still allows almost every character to have some unique synergy with another hero or villain your allies can choose.

The variety of adjustments for Team-Ups this Season may not be the last, as Ultron's arrival halfway through the Season will undoubtedly create new synergies. While some Team-Up changes in Marvel Rivals feel small, their impact will be felt later as more Seasons cause even more tweaks to character pairings.
