One of the most impressive achievements in Marvel Rivals is a Lord icon you get for mastering a specific character. The final milestone of character proficiency, Lord icons are alternate artworks of heroes that show up during matches for your allies and enemies to see. Those with Lord icons have spent tons of time grinding a character, but there are ways to skip the tedium of earning Lord status.
When you start playing any character, you can accumulate proficiency with them by playing matches. You can earn a unique Spray, multiple different K.O. prompt arts, and eventually the Lord icon Avatar for a character by ranking up your proficiency with them. Unlocking each available proficiency for a hero will help you earn cosmetics that you won't find in the Store or any Battle for Marvel Rivals.

What Is Lord Proficiency In Marvel Rivals?
Gain A Unique Icon For Character Mastery
The title of "Lord" is the final level of character proficiency you can have with any individual hero in Marvel Rivals. When you reach character mastery, you are gifted with a Lord icon as your reward, changing how your character's Avatar looks when selecting them for a match. This communicates to other players, both against you and on your side, that you have sunk many hours with a character to reach a Lord title.

Marvel Rivals' Performance-Based Points System Might Give Strategists Another Reason To Strike
Marvel Rivals has made some changes to its ranked system for season 2, and while there is already a Strategist strike, it could make things worse.
You reach Lord with any one character after you progress through four other proficiency levels first. Listed from lowest to highest, here are all the character proficiencies you can earn while playing matches as one character:
- Agent (starting)
- Knight
- Captain
- Centurion
- Lord
Every character has their own proficiency level, so reaching Lord with one hero doesn't unlock the same rewards for anyone else. One of the reasons why Lord icons are so few and far between is that it requires players to stick to one character for many matches to master them. Whether for a Duelist, Strategist, or Vanguard in Marvel Rivals, Lord icons represent expertise with characters gained over a significant amount of gameplay.
How To Unlock A Lord Icon
Complete Character Proficiency Quests For Progression
When you begin playing as any character in Marvel Rivals, you begin to progress individual proficiency quests for them automatically. By playing as a character, you gain points to progress their proficiency as you complete quests multiple times. Each character has a unique set of quests, with some similarities between heroes.
You can view what level of proficiency you have with any character by selecting them from the "Heroes" menu. Once you pick a character from this menu, go to the tab labeled "Proficiency" to see what rank you have with them and their unique quests to progress their rank.
When you complete a quest, you gain a set number of proficiency points used to progress your rank with a character. For example, having the hero usage time of Doctor Strange in Marvel Rivals reach 60 minutes in matches gives you 60 proficiency points by completing a quest for the Sorcerer Supreme. The higher the rank you're trying to reach, the more proficiency points you'll need from quests.
The following table includes every proficiency rank for a character, how many points you need to reach it, and what reward you get for unlocking it:
Proficiency Rank |
Proficiency Points Needed |
Reward |
---|---|---|
Agent |
N/A (starting rank) |
Basic kill notification |
Knight |
500 Proficiency Points |
Hero Spray |
Captain |
1,200 Proficiency Points |
Hero-themed elimination notification |
Centurion |
2,000 Proficiency Points |
Upgraded hero-themed elimination notification |
Lord |
2,400 Proficiency Points |
Lord Avatar Icon |
Finishing a proficiency quest resets it from the start, carrying over whatever leftover pieces from its goal you may have had. For example, if you played Doctor Strange for 62 minutes, you would finish a proficiency quest and start it over with 2 minutes already counted toward completing the same quest again. Character proficiency quests do not change once finished, they simply start over for you to pursue again for the same number of points.

10 Perfect Themes For Future Marvel Rivals Seasons
With the news of Marvel Rivals speeding up its content plans, what other seasonal themes and characters could be coming in the hero shooter's future?
Lord rank takes the longest to reach due to how you must earn a total of 6,100 points to achieve character mastery. While it isn't too difficult to complete character proficiency quests simply by using that hero's abilities in matches, it still takes a very long time to grind through each rank. Depending on the character you play as in Marvel Rivals, Lord rank may not take long or become an arduous grind.
Easiest Ways To Get Lord Icons Fast
Follow Roles And Don't Play In Long Matches
One of the easiest ways to rank up to Lord quickly is to understand how each character approaches proficiency quests. Even though characters have quests unique to them, they can be separated into categories. This will help you know which quests can be completed the fastest, usually based on a hero's role and individual goals.
Since every character has four different proficiency quests, they can be broken down into these archetypes:
- Hero Usage - Playing a single character for 60 minutes of in-game time.
- Role Milestone - Dealing damage as a Duelist, Blocking damage as a Vanguard, or Healing allies as a Strategist in Marvel Rivals.
- KOs/Assists - Eliminate a certain number of enemies with either Final Hits, Assists, or K.Os.
- Unique Character Goal - Use a specific ability of a character a number of times.
One of the fastest ways to get your Lord icon is to try to complete the Role Milestones and Unique Character Goals as much as you can, as these are typically the easiest to complete often. Strategists usually have the fastest route to Lord rank, as they are constantly healing during a match to progress their Role Milestone. From simply playing into their role, they can gain proficiency points without too much trouble.
Do not try to prioritize scoring eliminations with a character to gain proficiency points. More often than not, using a character's unique skill set to perform their role well within a team will progress your status to Lord much faster.
Some Unique Character Goals are much easier to complete for points than others. Characters like Namor or Venom simply have to use an ability that is mostly ive, either to lay down squid turrents or gain health through Symbiotic Resilience respectfully. Depending on the character, the quests you pursue take longer to complete between matches.

Marvel Rivals Season 2: How To Get Chrono Tokens, Units, & Lattice
The three types of currency you can get in Marvel Rivals are Chrono Tokens, Units, and Lattice, which can all be earned in different ways in Season 2.
Another good strategy for unlocking a Lord icon fast is to participate in much faster matches. Typically, Competitive matches and Quick Play take a long time to complete compared to faster game modes like Doom Match or Conquest. Game modes that don't take long to complete allow you to pursue proficiency quests without sacrificing the progress you'll make in Hero Usage goals at the same time.
No matter how you choose to lessen the grind of getting a Lord icon, repetition and collaboration between friends usually make the process easier. Once you earn a Lord icon in Marvel Rivals, you can show off how much work it took with your unique Avatar, while also gaining skills to master your favorite character(s).
