An eagle-eyed between Peter and his beloved Aunt May within Marvel’s Spider-Man’s in-game social media feed.

Speaking of those close to Peter, one of the primary characters in the first Marvel’s Spider-Man game is Dr. Otto Octavius, an initially well-meaning scientist and mentor to Spidey when the hero isn’t taking down criminals. As per tradition, Otto eventually descends into villainy as the multi-limbed Doc Ock, a plot twist that is foreshadowed by a hidden detail in Marvel’s Spider-Man’s Photo Mode. Before that though, Dr. Octavius and Peter spend a fair bit of the game’s plot researching mechanical limbs - including Doc Ock’s signature steel tentacles - in a crude laboratory in Greenwich. Players often swing by this lab to assist Otto with his experiments by completing side puzzles, and Peter uses the facility to construct the Anti-Ock Armor he wears during Marvel’s Spider-Man’s personal and emotional final boss battle against the fallen scientist.

Reddit Razkal719 had played through Marvel’s Spider-Man no less than five times on the PlayStation 4 and four times on the PS5 when they finally noticed a few side details in Otto’s lab that reveal that it was once an auto repair shop (via Game Rant). In the video, they point out that the lab contains several roll-up garage doors, a car lift, and a service pit. From outside the lab, Razkal719 notes that the lab is located on the bottom floor of the building, as the same garage doors can be seen along the base. Peter enters through the top as Spider-Man and meets Otto downstairs in his lab attire, meaning that he changes out of his suit while walking down the stairs from the roof.

Part of what made Marvel’s Spider-Man so well received is the level of detail that developer Insomniac put into its world and gameplay, with fans uncovering new things even four years after the game first swung onto the PS4. While playing around in the open world of Marvel’s Spider-Man, players have noticed unique animations of Spidey pulling himself up along fire escapes, as well as the web-headed hero’s not-so-obvious ability to pull said fire escapes off the buildings they’re attached to outside of combat. This attention to detail would continue in the 2020 spin-off Spider-Man: Miles Morales and fans wouldn’t be surprised to uncover plenty of fun secrets in the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Marvel’s Wolverine as well.

These secrets include how Otto Octavius's lab was once an auto repair shop before the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man, which illustrates how Otto and his company are short on funds due to his falling out with Norman Osborn. Indeed, the game notes that Otto’s research largely depends on grants to keep his dreams of overcoming a neurological disorder he suffers from alive, and it is this desperation that eventually leads to his tragic fall from grace at the end of Marvel’s Spider-Man.
