Marvel Studios producer Victoria Alonso hopes more female directors the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the years to come. There's a new era coming in Hollywood, one that looks to allow for more diverse voices to influence the film business. Studios are more vigilante than ever to bring women and people of color behind and in front of the camera. That not only goes for the small indie films that are hoping for awards, but also the biggest blockbusters. Just look at what Black Panther did financially, critically, and culturally, and its easy to see why these won't be anomalies in the grand scheme.
Marvel is currently enjoying the success of Captain Marvel, where Anna Boden becomes the first female director in the MCU. She will be co-directing with Ryan Fleck on Marvel's first solo female superhero movie led by Brie Larson. But, one Marvel producer hopes there will be many more women hired in the future to helm MCU movies on their own.

Michelle Pfeiffer's possible role in an Avengers film). During that interview, Alonso was asked when Marvel would hire a solo female director. Not only does she think that will happen soon, but she's hopeful that there will be several hires in the future:
Soon, I hope. Here’s the thing: We want the best person for the job. I don’t think it’s fair to the movie to say, “This has to be directed by a man,” or “That has to be directed by a woman.” I think it has to be a conscious search for the best human — and hopefully the best human, as we continue to fill out our slate, is half and half.
As part of the Disney umbrella, the future hires for Marvel Studios could come with familiar faces. Niki Caro is set to direct any of the women considered for Captain Marvel before Boden and Fleck were chosen, or any rising names out of the indie scene.
What Marvel's future is going to contain still is a mystery, but it would be surprising if there weren't multiple female directors in Phase 4. The title of "first solo female MCU director" will likely go to whoever is hired to direct Scarlett Johansson's long-awaited Black Widow solo film. Beyond that, female directors could be brought in to direct another new franchises, and not just ones headlined by female superheroes either. Marvel Studios has big plans for the future, and it sounds like they will definitely play a part in giving female directors some of the biggest jobs in Hollywood.
