Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Wolverine #26
In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' X-Force tasked with protecting the mutant island nation of Krakoa, they have very different definitions of what national security looks like. Now, it looks as though Beast and Wolverine are nearing a full-on showdown in the near future.
Unfortunately, it's been some time since Beast was a likable character. In the X-Men's current era, Hank McCoy has become incredibly jaded and cynical. He's also willing to do whatever it takes to keep Krakoa safe no matter how unethical the methods may be. Beast has practically become a villain, committing war crimes against external threats and even ordering preemptive strikes before Krakoa has even been threatened. As such, that sort of leadership doesn't fly for Wolverine.
Although Wolverine is a living weapon and known for being the best at what he does, Logan still carries more honor than Hank. As seen in the new Wolverine #26 from Benjamin Percy and Juan José Ryp, Logan has zero interest in taking out a band of pirates who may or may not attack Krakoa's trade routes in the future based on Hank's predictive algorithms. While Beast wants to "end the problem before it becomes a problem", Wolverine refuses to go on the X-Force mission despite Beast warning him not to leave. As such, tensions between the two mutants will likely boil over sooner rather than later.
Wolverine and Beast May Tear X-Force Apart
Although Beast and Wolverine have been at odds for a while, this new conflict may be the straw that breaks the camel's back. It certainly feels as though a reckoning is in the cards, though it will likely end X-Force as readers know it (which is probably a good thing). That being said, Beast knows how valuable Wolverine is to X-Force and Krakoa's ultimate safety. Combined with Logan recently saving his life from Kraven the Hunter, it makes sense that Beast looks prepared to save Logan by the issue's end who was captured by the Legacy House (selling chunks of Wolverine's body to the highest bidder).
At any rate, Wolverine has enough honor that he needs a clear and present foe to stab with his claws, not one who may or may not become a threat. While Beast has taken a very dark (and very real) approach to national security, it's definitely a strategy Logan can no longer tolerate. Wolverine #26 is now on sale.
