WARNING! Spoilers to Fantastic Four: Empyre Fallout #1 by Dan Slott, Sean Izaakse, Marcio Menyz, and VC's Joe Caramagna, out now!
Just like celebrate and evaluate their losses following their victory over the celestial messiah Quoi and his failed Cotati invasion of Earth. As the Unseen oversees what he reveals as significant historical moments to both Earth and the galaxy, a surprising discovery somehow triggers an unexpected reaction from the Unseen's powers, bringing Uatu back to life!
In 2014's Original Sin story-line, an older Nick Fury revealed his true role as the defender of Earth from a great deal of unknown threats, and without the Infinity Formula keeping him young, he required someone to replace him when he died. Revealing that he had killed Uatu when the Watcher failed to give him information regarding two individuals who had assaulted him, Fury paid the ultimate price for stealing Uatu's eye with numerous secrets exposed to much of Earth's population and Fury taking Uatu's place as the Unseen. He would occasionally come across some of the more powerful Earth heroes, wearing a hooded robe and bound in chains, where he would test his vow of non-interference albeit with severe consequences from the other Watchers.
In this adoption of the alien's Jo and Nicki by the Fantastic Four's Ben and Alicia Grimm, the Unseen observes all. However when everyone has left, the Unseen turns his attention to the weapons left behind, questioning how the Cotati acquired weapons powerful enough to defeat both Skrull and Kree forces.
Observing these weapons, the former Fury discovers they predate the Elders of the Universe, the Asgardians, and even the Celestials. Discovering they were created by entities known as The First Race, the Unseen's inquiry is interrupted by a flare within his powers that knocks him off his feet. From his all-knowing, all-powerful eye, a surge of energy takes the shape and reveals a resurrected Uatu. The returned Watcher looks in pain, still missing one eye, as the Unseen questions how this is possible. In true fashion, Uatu offers a cryptic warning, "There will be a reckoning..", which implies that although Earth's heroes won the battle, the war is far from over. How Uatu's return will affect the power balance between him, the Unseen, and the other Watchers is yet to be seen but in true Orwellian fashion, Uatu will be watching, whether you like it or not.
