One World Under Doom #4 – Written by Ryan North; Art by R.B. Silva; Cover by Ben Harvey; Variant Cover by Adi Granov

Even though his big MCU appearance was somewhat uneventful, Dormammu’s return in the next major Marvel Comics crossover event is the perfect test for Doom, truly making him earn the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme. As one of Doctor Strange’s most fearsome foes, Dormammu’s power is virtually unmatched. The Faltine entity, who seeks to conquer the universe, is often thwarted not by raw power and sorcery but by Strange’s wit and strategic planning. With Earth left vulnerable in the wake of Doom’s takeover, Dormammu could wreak serious havoc—and Doom is the only thing standing in his way.

One World Under Doom #4 isn’t the first time Doctor Doom will take on this terrifying deity, as he already faced him and even took some of Dormammu’s power in The Last Annihilation storyline back in 2021. Likewise, in Guardians of the Galaxy #18 by Al Ewing and Juan Frigeri, Doom worked with the cosmic superhero team to take down Dormammu after he possessed Ego the Living Planet. However, this was all part of a ploy from Doom to siphon Dormammu’s power and banish the entity to the Dark Dimension once again. With a confirmed grudge against Doom, Dormammu’s return will certainly be with a vengeance.

The One World Under Doom title will span nine issues, making it likely that Doom will survive his clash with Dormammu in issue #4. However, Doom’s role in Marvel’s last blockbuster crossover, Blood Hunt, didn’t become significant until the finale—when he officially stole the title of Sorcerer Supreme and One World Under Doom was announced. This means Dormammu’s appearance could still set the stage for a colossal comeback in the Marvel Universe. His invasion of Earth was even teased in Timeslide, all but confirming that it will have serious consequences.

Dormammu’s time in the MCU may have been brief, but there’s still a chance for him to return in a big way—and his reignited rivalry with Doom could highlight just how powerful and menacing he truly is. As the next challenger willing to take on Emperor Doom after he defeated the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and more, Dormammu is proving himself to be one of the multiverse’s greatest threats. Following his rushed appearance in Doctor Strange, Dormammu has returned to the comics to challenge Doctor Doom for the title of Marvel’s most formidable villain.

One World Under Doom #4 will be available May 14, 2025, from Marvel Comics!
