Marvel its the shameful truth about a future MCU star. Wonder Man, Simon Williams, has been a pillar of the Marvel Universe for decades and a longtime member of the Avengers. While not as popular today as he once was, Wonder Man is still a fan favorite–and is on his way to the MCU, but before he makes his debut, Marvel confesses a shameful truth about him in X-Force #50.
X-Force #50 is written by Benjamin Percy and drawn by Robert Gill. The last clone of the Beast, one that has not been corrupted, has met up with Wonder Man, his former best friend. As the Beast clone and Wonder Man fight the real Beast, Kid Omega and the rest of X-Force watch the fight. Kid Omega first takes a swipe at Wonder Man’s acting ability, citing Simon’s best-rated movie on IMDB, called Beach Volleyball Bros II.
Kid Omega’s point is clear: Wonder Man is a terrible actor.
Wonder Man is a Staple of the Avengers
Wonder Man is Also Maybe Marvel's Worst Actor
Although Wonder Man is best known today as an Avenger and a hammy actor, he actually began as a villain. After his family’s company was ruined by Iron Man, Simon swore revenge and underwent augmentation at the hands of Baron Zemo. He went on to infiltrate the Avengers, but had a change of heart, ultimately sacrificing himself to save the team. He stayed dead for roughly a decade, returning in the late 1970s, when he would become an official Avenger. During this time, he became best friends with the Beast, on sabbatical at the time from the X-Men.
Wonder Man was created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Don Heck
It was early during Wonder Man’s tenure with the Avengers that he developed an interest in acting, and it has become central to his character. Wonder Man relocated to California to pursue an acting career, making him a natural fit for the West Coast Avengers team. Wonder Man’s invulnerability and endurance also make him an ideal stuntman. Despite his superhuman powers, Wonder Man is not really a talented actor, instead relying on conventional good looks to get roles. Kid Omega calls this out, even as Wonder Man is helping them with the Beast.
Wonder Man is On His Way to the MCU
But How Will Wonder Man Be Portrayed?
With his background in acting, it is only fitting that Wonder Man s the MCU. In 2022, it was announced that Simon Williams would star in his own ten-episode Disney + series, overseen by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the titular hero. It is not known if Wonder Man will be depicted as an actor in the series, but that is likely, given how integral it is to his character. Whatever the MCU decides to do with Wonder Man, the truth is he is not a good actor–but is a great hero.
