An October 20, 2023 release date has finally been confirmed for Spider-Man 2 Release Date Confirmed (& The Leaks Were Wrong)

Spider-Man 2 Can Be Pre-Ordered June 16

A quote from Insomniac Games' Community Director James Stevenson on Twitter confirmed that the pre-order suits have capes, which isn't something that's often associated with either web-slinger but should look cool as the heroes traverse the city considering what players have seen of the web-wings gliding mechanics so far. Stevenson also confirmed that these pre-order suits are "early unlocks" in the game rather than exclusives, meaning that players will still be able to unlock them regardless of when players purchased the game, albeit with points earned by carrying out various challenges over the course of the game, as was the case with the suits in the previous titles.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2's Digital Deluxe Edition Has 10 Unique Suits

Spider-Man 2's Digital Deluxe Edition Bonus content

Marvel's Spider-Man 2's Digital Deluxe Edition will include the digital version of the game and all the aforementioned pre-order perks and will retail at $79.99, which is $10 more than the game's standard edition. Its main selling point is its collection of 10 newly-designed suits. The Digital Deluxe edition contains five unique suits for Peter, and five for Miles that have been designed specifically for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 by the following guest artists from across comics, films, and PlayStation Studios: Kris Anka, Julia Blattman, Sweeney Boo, Anthony Francisco, Raf Grassetti, Jerad Maantz, Joel Mandish, Darren Quach, and Victoria Ying.

Peter's suits include the Tactical suit, Aurantia suit, 25th Century suit, Stone Monkey suit, and Apunkalyptic suit, whereas Miles will have the Agimat suit, Red Spectre suit, Encoded suit, Biomechanical suit, and Tokusatsu suit. In addition to these suits, the Digital Deluxe edition will include additional Photo Mode items such as frames and stickers and two further additional skill points on top of the pre-order's three, meaning players with the Digital Deluxe edition have a total of five bonus points to use to level up Peter and Miles from the very start of the game. Insomniac Games has also confirmed that the Digital Deluxe edition content will be available in an upgrade at any time for those who purchased the standard edition of the game.

Spider-Man 2's Collector's Edition Has An Impressive 19-Inch Statue

Spider-Man 2's Collector's Edition bonuses

Lastly, Marvel's Spider-Man 2's $229.99 Collector's Edition will include a Steelbook display case featuring the artwork of Peter and Miles fighting Venom that was revealed at Summer Game Fest, and much like 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man, it will come with a collectible statue. The 19-inch statue shows both Peter and Miles attacking the symbiotic foe from above, with Venom catching Miles as the younger Spider-Man prepares to unleash a bioelectrical punch while Peter attempts to web-zip toward the villain.

The Collector's Edition also includes all the aforementioned content from the pre-order and Digital Deluxe versions of the game. It is worth noting, however, that despite having a display case, the Spider-Man 2 Collector's Edition only includes a digital version of the game (the Digital Deluxe version to be specific), making Marvel's Spider-Man 2's standard edition seemingly the only disc-based version of the game on the market.

Although the choice to have a disc-less Collector's Edition is likely so that those who bought a disc-free PS5 can also enjoy the exclusive Marvel's Spider-Man 2 statue without having to purchase the game twice, it may disappoint those who specifically bought the disc-drive version of the PS5 because they prefer physical media. This has proven to be a controversial move with some other PlayStation-exclusive titles such as God of War Ragnarök or Horizon: Forbidden West, which had disc-less collector's editions in the past, with collectors stating that they believe the most expensive version of the game should come with a disc to go along with their Steelbook cases, and to just offer both a digital and physical version of the collector's editions instead to let players choose their preferred format.

The Collector's Edition of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is currently only available to order via PlayStation Direct in the United States, United Kingdom, , , Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy, Austria, Spain, and Portugal while supplies last. For those who don't have access to PlayStation Direct in their countries, however, Insomniac reassures fans that there will be more information on how they can secure a Collector's Edition of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 coming soon.

The series' previous entries, Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales were praised by fans for the vast collection of suits from across movies, TV, and comics that Insomniac incorporated. It's clear that the suits on display in the pre-order bonuses and special editions of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 are just the tip of the iceberg, and that there will be plenty more to look forward to when the game releases in October.
