While news on Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has been limited outside its 2021 reveal trailer, what has been revealed shows that the game is wisely avoiding a mistake from Miles Morales' comics. Co-starring Miles and his mentor Peter Parker, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is set to tie up loose ends from the original Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, continuing the stories of the two protagonists while also introducing new major villains in the form of Venom and Kraven the Hunter.

Little has been shown of the anticipated since its initial announcement, although a Fall 2023 release date for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has been confirmed by Insomniac. Along with the inclusion of both protagonists and new villains, however, the reveal trailer has also confirmed that both heroes' default suits will iterate on their classic designs, remaining largely similar to their suits from previous games. Peter Parker's costume has been given a slight recolor, while Miles has received minor changes.

Spider-Man 2 Isn't Using Miles' Comics Redesign, And That's A Good Thing

Miles Morales' redesigned suit in the comics. Instead of the traditional webbed look, this new costume incorporates streetwear and athleisure, with a baggy, sweater-like garb forming the upper half of the costume and the mask having red eyes rather than white.

While Miles Morales' suit has received a major redesign in more recent comics, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will, thankfully, be sticking more closely to Miles' original design by Sara Pichelli. The updated look - which debuted in 2021's Miles Morales: Spider-Man #30 - did away with some defining Spidey suit features. With Marvel's Spider-Man borrowing plenty from the comics, it may seem strange to leave Miles' current comic design out, alternate costumes notwithstanding. However, the decision also makes sure that the character's most iconic look remains in the spotlight, and allows for Marvel's Spider-Man 2's Miles to maintain a unique identity.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Keeps Miles Morales' Most Iconic Costume

Although Miles' updated comic book appearance seemingly takes cues from both his well-loved Into the Spider-Verse outfit and from the Scarlet Spider in mixing a traditional Spider-Man suit with streetwear, it ultimately misses the mark for many fans. Luckily for fans of the older suit, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 looks to be sticking to a more classic approach, keeping Miles' outfit closer to its original design from the Ultimate Spider-Man comics. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has tweaked Miles' suit - adding more red accents to the design - but it still resembles the character's most iconic look.

Fans of Miles' updated comic design may be disappointed by the default suit showcased in Marvel's Spider-Man 2's reveal trailer, but it's certainly not unlikely for the redesign to feature as an alternate costume. With both the original Marvel's Spider-Man and Miles Morales featuring a variety of equipable suits from all across Spider-Man media, the 2021 Miles Morales suit is still likely to make to an appearance for those who prefer it. For many fans of Miles, however, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 iterating on his classic design will be a welcome decision.
