playing Batman in the Arkham games and Peter Parker & Miles Morales in the Marvel's Spider-Man titles. A lot of games have treated Wolverine as a solely combat-focused character, who is only good for slashing foes with his claws. Insomniac Games can add a tiny feature that will make Wolverine a lot more fun to play, as it involves one of his most iconic actions in the X-Men comics and movies.

Marvel's Spider-Man and the Batman Arkham games had the advantage of protagonists who are incredibly agile, which is a useful trait for a video game character to have. Wolverine isn't a character who is known for being agile. He might be quick on his feet in a fight, but he's not gonna be leaping around the battlefield, or swinging from ledge to ledge. The fact that his skeleton is coated in metal is also an impediment to Wolverine jumping around like Mario.

There are other ways for the developers of Marvel's Wolverine to evoke the feeling of playing as the famous member of the X-Men, and other video games have done a great job of emulating him. Wolverine is a fighter character in video games, but he can also be a tracker, thanks to his enhanced senses, while his extended lifespan and decades of traveling the globe have given him a number of skills that most spend a lifetime honing. In the end, the game will come down to fighting, and there's one thing Marvel's Wolverine should introduce that is useful both inside and outside of combat.

The Claw-Popping Should Have Its Own Dedicated Button In Marvel's Wolverine

In games like the Grand Theft Auto series, the NPCs on the overworld will react differently to the player walking around normally and when they pull out a gun. Marvel's Wolverine needs to evoke the same reaction, by tying his claws to a dedicated button that extends and retracts his claws. The ability to pop out the claws mid-dialogue stream and have characters react in different ways would also be awesome, with mooks becoming terrified, and bosses realizing that he's finally taking things seriously. Marvel's Wolverine shouldn't play like Spider-Man, both in of Wolverine's fighting style and his approach to encounters.

It's possible that Marvel's Wolverine will just have the claws pop out on their own at the start of combat and have them retract once the battle ends. This might be introduced as a time-saving measure on the part of the developers, as it's unclear how the gameplay loop in Marvel's Wolverine will work. Giving the player control over Wolverine's claws is one of the smaller moments that can have a big impact, and letting players create the famous *snikt* sound of their own accord is one way to bring out that feeling. Marvel's Wolverine will likely be a violent game, but players should have control over when they want to take things to the next level.
