Mary Jane transforming into Venom completely changes the dynamic between her and Peter.

Spider-Man and Mary Jane have always had an incredible relationship, but in the universe of Spider-Man: Reign, Mary Jane died a long time ago from cancer, which was due to her relationship with Peter. Sent back in time, Peter thinks it's his chance to save her, but it turns out, he just might need saving from her. As Spider-Man raced through the city of this twisted New York, the only thing on his mind was saving Mary Jane, but that's unfortunately not what happened.

The reasons why Mary Jane took on the Venom symbiote are currently entirely unknown, but it seems like somehow, Spider-Man was responsible for the death of Mary Jane to become Venom. Mary Jane transforming into Venom completely changes the dynamic between her and Peter. All Spider-Man wanted was to save Mary Jane, to the point he killed villains who got in his way, and completely abandoned an ally just to chase down the possibility of Mary Jane still being alive.

Peter will have to discover what exactly drove Mary Jane to become this world's version of Venom, and if there's anything he can do to save the woman he loves.

As she attacks and beats Spider-Man, the Venomized Mary Jane openly states that this is her city, and she has no problem killing anyone who wanders onto her turf. In this twisted universe, Peter will have to discover what exactly drove Mary Jane to become this world's version of Venom, and if there's anything he can do to save the woman he loves. With the history of this MJ shrouded in mystery, it might not be possible for Peter to save her, and instead, it might be Spider-Man who needs to be saved from Mary Jane Watson as Venom.
