Two separate retailer listings, from Singapore's Shopitree and Indonesia's GSShop, indicated that Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will launch in just a couple of months on March 12. BioWare and Electronic Arts finally confirmed the collection's existence on N7 Day 2020 following months of leaks. The companies have yet to share an official release date, though, previously noting that a launch is slated for sometime in spring 2021.
The first rumblings about a Mass Effect remaster originally surfaced due to an EA investor call in October 2019, wherein the publisher stated that "exciting remasters" were in the works. It didn't take long for the rumor mill to get going, with journalists and insiders spending months teasing a new bundle for the Mass Effect trilogy. Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will offer more than the previous collection, however, since it will contain the entirety of each entry's DLC releases.
Fortunately, it seems the wait to once more step aboard the Normandy is nearly at an end. Twitter Idle Sloth (via Eurogamer) spotted two different retailer listings earlier today, both of which mention a March 12 due date for Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. One of the listings is from the Singapore retailer Shopitree, while a Twitter post from Indonesian retailer GSShop features a 43-second Legendary Edition trailer, complete with the March 12 date attached. Customers in both regions are already able to preorder the title as well, giving further credibility to the listed launch date's potential legitimacy.
With all of the above in mind, it must only be a matter of time before Electronic Arts confirms the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition's release details itself. The publisher is no stranger to sharing launch information at the 11th hour, though. Last year, despite endless rumors and leaks, EA didn't confirm Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered's street date until one month prior to release. It would hardly come as a surprise if the Mass Effect collection wound up in a similar situation, though its spring window means that date will still likely be sooner rather than later.
Fans have more than the trilogy's remaster to look forward to as well. The next mainline Mass Effect entry is in the works at BioWare. In addition to unveiling the Legendary Edition on N7 Day last November, the developer also promised that work had begun on a brand-new title. What that may entail in of narrative remains to be seen, but a Mass Effect teaser trailer showcased during The Game Awards 2020 implied the next tale will likely continue the trilogy's story arc.
Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is scheduled to release this spring for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms.
