Summary

  • Eternia transitions from a monarchy to a democracy, allowing Prince Adam to give up his royal duties and empower the people.
  • Skeletor's comic origins were revealed to be false memories implanted by Hordak, establishing his true origins as Randor's older brother.
  • Evil-Lynn breaks away from the side of evil and becomes a hero, ing the Cosmic Enforcers and completing her redemption story.

Kevin Smith revived the timeline of the original series with his own vision for a sequel.

Despite sharing the same characters and settings as its predecessor series, the world presented by Masters of the Universe: Revolution isn't the exact same one from the 80s cartoon. Smith made some big changes to the He-Man mythos in the previous series, Masters of the Universe: Revelation, not the least of which being the early deaths of He-Man and Skeletor. Continuing the series' tradition of re-vamping the canon, Revolution has already featured some changes with big implications for the world of Eternia.

10 Eternia Is A Democracy

Adam is a prince no longer

Teela Man-At-Arms He-Man in Masters of the Universe Revolution

One of the most important changes to the lore of He-Man revealed in the ending to Masters of the Universe: Revolution's first part is the transition of Eternia from a monarchy to a democracy. The conflict between Prince Adam's duties as a royal and his escapades as He-Man was long a point of contention for the character throughout the first part of the series. In the end, this is rectified by the character giving the power of leadership to Eternia's people, notably not running as a political candidate in the new democracy himself.

9 Skeletor's Comic Origins Were A False Memory

The villain's true origins are more in-line with other versions

As of Masters of the Universe: Revelation, Skeletor's origins in Kevin Smith's continuity were up for debate, never definitively settled on-screen. A tie-in comic to the first series described an unfamiliar story for the character, explaining him as a long-lost member of an extradimensional race of skull-faced aliens. Luckily, Revolution took the time to clarify that this origin story was a false memory implanted by Hordak, and that Skeletor's true origins as Randor's older brother were once again canon.

8 Evil-Lynn Becomes A Hero

Lynn's redemption story finally comes full circle

Cosmic Enforcers in Masters of the Universe Revolution

Despite her name, Evil-Lynn has managed to officially break away from the side of evil as of the end of Masters of the Universe: Revolution. After being re-christened as "Good-Lynn" by the late Granamyr, Lynn goes on to the Cosmic Enforcers, a peacekeeping force led by the character Zodac, a holdover from the 80s series. While the Cosmic Enforcers may lean more towards neutrality than good, Lynn's new role is indicative of the worthy revolution of her character arc throughout the franchise.

7 The Introduction Of Motherboard

An insidious new evil faction for He-Man and co. to face

Masters of the Universe: Revolution begins by introducing a newly cyberized Skeletor with a suite of dazzling technological upgrades, courtesy of his master, the sinster presence Motherboard. Best described as an entity rather than a singular person or group, the Motherboard incorporated the help of other villains as well, such as Tri-Klops and Trap Jaw, giving them similar mechanized upgrades. The conflict surrounding Motherboard serves as the staging grounds for the first part's focus on the Eternia's war between magic and technology.

6 Skeletor Is Reverted To His Original Form

After describing his new origin, Revolution turns back the clock on Skeletor

Skeletor as Keldor in Masters of the Universe Revolution

When He-Man finally manages to plunge his sword through Skeletor, the powerful weapon's magic courses through him, transforming him back into his previous form, Keldor. Now voiced by William Shatner, the helpless villain is taken into custody by Masters of the Universe's heroes, seemingly cut off from his powers. However, a brief shot of Keldor gazing at his reflection, only to see his more familiar skeletal visage, suggests that his villainous days are far from behind him.

5 Gwildor Returns, Animated For The First Time

The events of the 80s movie may be canon to Kevin Smith's timeline

Masters of the Universe: Revolution introduced a He-Man character into the realm of animation for the first time, the plucky pint-sized inventor Gwildor. Previously introduced in the 80s live-action film starring Dolph Lungdren, Masters of the Universe, Gwildor returns in Revolution, entering the He-Man canon in full. Not only that, but Gwildor and Man-At-Arms' conversation implies a history that could be referencing the events of the film, bringing not just Gwildor, but the events of the largely-forgotten movie into the fold of Smith's universe.

4 The Fright Zone's Lore Is Expanded Upon

From obscure playset to foothold for invasion

While not as iconic as locations like Castle Greyskull and Snake Mountain, Masters of the Universe: Revolution has re-vamped the Fright Zone as a more important place in the franchise's lore. Typically associated with Hordak, the locale has often been painted as a base of operations for the demonic warlord. The new continuity's third installment has clarified that Hordak had used the Fright Zone as a staging ground for his failed invasion of Eternia, further increasing the area's significance to the land's history.

3 Teela And Adam Became A Couple

The 40 year old will-they-won't they finally paid off

He-Man and Teela in Masters of the Universe Revolution

Romance has never been a strong appeal of the various incarnations of He-Man, with Teela's affections for Prince Adam's alter ego being the closest the series usually comes. However, Masters of the Universe: Revolution finally resolved the decades old tease of their relationship by making Adam and Teela an official couple, helped by Adam's He-Man persona finally being public knowledge. Not only that, but Adam shares the power of He-Man's sword with Teela, giving the sorceress her own power upgrade.

2 Preternia Is Restored

The realm's restoration allowed falling heroes to the final battle

Dead Heroes in Masters of the Universe Revolution

In Masters of the Universe: Revelation, Smith made a significant change to the meaning of "Preternia". Previously, Preternia referred to the pre-historic version of Eternia, in which paleolithic versions of He-Man and Skeletor duked it out for stone age supremacy. In the current series, Preternia has been reworked to refer to the afterlife of Eternia's great heroes. Revolutions saw Teela succeed in repairing the fractured realm, restoring the realm as a proper home to fallen heroes.

1 A New Villainess Enters The Picture

A deadly familiar face may be lurking over the horizon

Previously, legal issues prevented Kevin Smith from using She-Ra in his new series. However, the final tease of a new villainess speaking to Hordak's unconscious body suggested the character's return, though on the side of the mysterious Horde Prime. The episode's credits reveal this speaker as Despara, a name used by the comics to refer to She-Ra's evil incarnation. Combined with the tease of Hordak carrying away a certain blonde-haired baby, and the return of She-Ra as a villain to Masters of the Universe: Revolution is one of the biggest new story elements yet.
