The remake of a classic '80s legal show that managed to earn a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score is now a streaming hit, seemingly earning its spot via now-cancelled Quantum Leap, a remake of the 1989 series, and a trilogy of shows made by Peter M. Lenkov, those being remakes of Hawaii Five-0, MacGyver, and Magnum P.I. These remakes have managed to find varying levels of success as they've been released.
The level of success these shows have found also depends on where they're being watched. Many of these remakes are on network TV channels, meaning they stream the following day on services like Paramount+ or Peacock. Because of the ease of access streaming allows, it offers a new metric of success for these shows. This also means some reboots can unexpectedly rise to the top, not just through traditional night-of viewership, but also through the services they're available to watch on.

Our Take On Matlock Becoming A Hit On Streaming
It Makes More Sense Why It Was Renewed For Season 2 So Quickly

It's no doubt aided by having an entirely different premise than the original, which exists in-universe as inspiration for Madeline's alias.
