Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches returned to AMC in January 2025 as part of the Immortal Universe, and the explosive sophomore season helped to build upon the ghoulish franchise started with Interview with the Vampire. The series is based on the novel trilogy by author Anne Rice, and stars Alexandra Daddario as Rowan Fielding, a neurosurgeon who finds out she comes from a long line of witches haunted by an evil spirit. Daddario is ed in the main cast of Mayfair Witches by Tongayi Chirisa as Ciprien Grieve, Jack Huston as Lasher, and Harry Hamlin as Cortland Mayfair.
The first of Rice's Lives of the Mayfair Witches books, The Witching Hour, is almost 1000 pages long, and thus some changes had to be made to accommodate the show's streamlined eight-episode season. One of the most notable differences between the Mayfair Witches book and the show is that novel characters Aaron and Michael were combined to make Ciprien. However, with Mayfair Witches season 2, the series continued to build upon what made the books so exciting, while adding new layers to accommodate an ongoing TV show that's connected to other AMC series.

Mayfair Witches Season 2 Critical Reception
An Improvement On Season 1 But Still A Somewhat Spotty Outing
The first season of Mayfair Witches wasn't the most well-received show in AMC's illustrious history, but it's clear that the series had a lot to build on going into season 2. As for season 2's reviews, Mayfair Witches improved marginally, but still has a long way to go to catch up with Interview with the Vampire. Season 2's Rotten Tomatoes score jumped up into the 70s after a debut season in the 50s, and Decider gave season 2 an emphatic "stream it" grade based largely on Daddario's performance.
Mayfair Witches continued what made some like season 1, while also continuing much of what made others dislike the series in the first place.
More in-depth reviews were particularly displeased with the show's rapid pacing, and Paste awarded season 2 a 6.2 rating because it failed to properly focus on the characters in favor of break-neck speed and plot twists. JoBlo compared season 2 of Mayfair Witches with season 2 of Interview with the Vampire, eventually calling the former "underwhelming" when taken together. Overall, Mayfair Witches continued what made some like season 1, while also continuing much of what made others dislike the series in the first place.
Mayfair Witches season 2 premiered on January 5, 2025.

Mayfair Witches Season 2 Trailer
Watch The Trailers Below
Though a full trailer didn't come for some time, a teaser for Mayfair Witches season 2 debuted at 2024's San Diego Comic-Con. The short clip package shows off some of the big moments from the season while Rowan recaps her journey from season 1 and sets up where she is headed next. Rowan serves as the narrator of the trailer, and it's clear that she's out for revenge. She closes the trailer on a sharp note when promising to take care of Lasher no matter what.
Appropriately released on Halloween 2024, AMC dropped a second teaser for Mayfair Witches season 2 which highlights the return of Lasher. In the wake of giving birth to the returned monster, Rowan notices her child has begun growing at an unnatural rate, and he quickly becomes violent. That violence eventually manifests in the murder of Mayfair women, and Rowan must call upon the whole family to stop the monster she unwittingly brought back into the world.
Mayfair Witches Season 2 Ending & Spoilers
Season 2's Finale Serves To Set Up Season 3
Though the ending of Mayfair Witches season 2 was somewhat convoluted, it mostly served to set up the events of season 3. The series' magic allows for almost endless storytelling, but the season 2 finale went with good old-fashioned cliffhanging to keep interest high in the Immortal Universe spinoff. A lot of bloodshed took quite a few characters off the table, but the supernatural AMC original has proven that no one stays dead for long when magic is involved.
