In the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®, the ESTP personality is one of the sixteen established personality types. ESTP is often known as "The Entrepreneur" or "The Dynamo." These types of people are usually thrill-seeking, adventurous, and high-energy. Given these traits, it seems like the action movie genre would be ideal for ESTPs. But not any old action movie will do.
ESTPs have their own interests and characteristics that dictate their unique tastes. While there are plenty of great movies that will fit their personality, there are also plenty they should avoid. Here are some of the action movies ESTPs are sure to love and some that they'll likely hate.
Love: Deadpool
Deadpool was the long-awaited big-screen adventure of one of the most beloved and unique comic book characters of all time. Ryan Reynolds stars as Deadpool, a wise-cracking, fourth-wall-breaking assassin who doesn't take the superhero thing very seriously.
Deadpool is the kind of hero ESTPs would love. They always have time to crack jokes, no matter the situation. They are also known for their talkative nature and just be hard to silence once they really get going.
Hate: Captain America: The First Avenger
Captain America is another hero that seemed like he just wouldn't work on the big screen, but then Chris Evans brought him to life in the MCU in Captain America: The First Avenger. The film shows Steve Rogers' transformation from the skinny kid to the ultimate super-soldier.
While Cap eventually became a little more rebellious in the MCU, this first movie gives us a clean-cut hero that ESTPs might have a hard time rooting for. They like to do things their own way and take action so they might not like a guy who just takes orders.
Love: Mission Impossible – Fallout
Mission: Impossible – Fallout is the sixth installment in the increasingly insane Mission Impossible franchise. Tom Cruise once again returns as spy Ethan Hunt as he attempts to find a man threatening to detonate a nuclear bomb.
The movie continues to up the ante with its death-defying stunts, many of which Cruise is performing himself. The risk-taking nature of the character and the actor will likely thrill ESTPs greatly. They'll wish it could be them jumping out of that plane.
Hate: Sherlock Holmes
As if Iron Man wasn't enough, Robert Downey Jr. took another iconic character in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes films. The first fun adventure finds the famed detective trying to solve the mystery of a man who seemingly came back from the dead by supernatural means.
While it's fun for most fans to watch how Holmes cracks the case, ESTPs don't operate as Holmes does. They prefer to deal with the here and now so they might be frustrated by an action hero who takes his time to look at the big picture and spends his time theorizing.
Love: Point Break
Point Break is the wild and underrated action movie from Kathryn Bigelow. It stars Keanu Reeves as an FBI agent who infiltrates the surfing community of Los Angeles to learn the identity of a group of thrill-seeking bank robbers.
Thrill-seeking is in the DNA of most ESTPs. They love extreme sports and pushing the limits much like the characters in this movie. While they might not be as reckless, the journey of Reeves' character as he gets drawn into the extreme world will be very relatable for them.
Hate: Executive Decision
Executive Decision is a basic but fun 90s action movie starring Kurt Russell and Steve Segal. Russell plays an intelligence analyst who is brought along on a mission led by Segal's special forces commander to handle the terrorists who have taken over a plane.
While the set up might sound solid enough for ESTPs, Segal's character is shockingly killed off in the first act leaving Russell's reluctant hero to step in. ESTPs might not appreciate a hero who would rather be safe at home.
Love: Crank
Crank is one of the wilder action films movie fans are likely to find. It stars Jason Statham as a hitman who is poisoned by a rival. The only way to fight the poison is to keep his heart rate up through a lot of creative means.
The movie fully embraces its crazy premise as it throws Statham into one high energy situation after another. ESTPs will love the relentless pace of the film and the character's life and death struggle to keep moving no matter what.
Hate: Leon: The Professional
Leon: The Professional stars Jean Reno as the titular hitman. Though deadly in his profession, Leon is a quiet and lonely man in his everyday life. That reserved life is turned upside down when he takes in a young girl whose parents have been murdered.
The calm and collected nature of Leon will seem cool to some viewers but ESTPs might not like a character who is so docile. They no doubt prefer a lot more energy in their action heroes and Leon's simple life would not please them at all.
Love: Hardcore Henry
Hardcore Henry may not be a video game movie but it's likely the closest thing to experiencing a video game as a movie. This first-person action film follows a man who is brought back from the dead with no memory and only the drive to rescue his wife.
ESTPs love to be right in the middle of the action and it's safe to say Hardcore Henry delivers that feeling better than most movies. It is a thrilling and wild ride with the audience in the driver's seat.
Hate: Ronin
Ronin is an underrated 90s action gem starring Robert De Niro and a bunch of talented actors. De Niro plays a gun for hire who s a covert team of professionals hired by a client to retrieve a mysterious briefcase from a target.
A big part of the movie is how De Niro and his companions are left in the dark about what their job actually is. ESTPs do not like such situations as they want immediately tangible results for their efforts. Telling them they are on a need-to-know basis isn't going to work for them.
