The prequel series Gotham narrates about the city's history and development before Batman's arise; it starts, indeed, with the murder of Martha and Thomas Wayne, an event that upsets and influences the whole city. This makes all of Batman's main villains and his secondary characters, such as Jim Gordon or Barbara Kean, a main part of the series, along with a pre-vigilante Bruce too.
New characters come and old ones go each season and even the darkest, creepy or dangerous ones show to be unique; through the Myer-Briggs® personality type indicator, you can find the personality type and description of each main protagonist below.
Jim Gordon: ESTJ
From the start to the finale of the series, Jim's goal is justice and to make Gotham a better place. His personality type is ESTJ, or rather Extraverted, Sensing, Thinking, Judging.
ESTJs deeply believe in responsibility, laws, and morals as citizens; they're often referred to as The Guardians because they tend to take charge and supervise, just like Jim does in the battle against crime.
Bruce Wayne: ISFJ
The young Bruce of this show isn't Batman yet, but his growth is one of the most interesting ones so far. Since he's an ISFJ (which stands for Introverted, Sensing, Feeling, Judging), Bruce believes in helping others, whether it's about family or Gotham's citizens.
Another important trait is comion: his friend Silver, for instance, betrayed and lied to him and, yet, he still helped her when she got in trouble with her uncle, Theo Galavan.
Oswald Copplebot: ESTP
Oswald Copplebot, or The Penguin, presents multiple ESTP (Extraverted, Sensing, Thinking, Perceiving) traits. When he sees an opportunity he doesn't just take it, he makes the most out of it, always.
He's a doer, one capable of creating his criminal empire and running it by himself. Penguin also managed to become mayor, which proves he's a natural leader and a good talker- mostly manipulator.
Alfred Pennyworth: ISTJ
Alfred is not just Bruce's butler, but also his father figure and guardian, and he falls into the ISTJ (Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, Judging) personality type. The traits he displays are plenty: he's responsible, meticulous, neat, and dutiful.
ISTJs care about traditions and believe in the system and the institutions, moreover, just like Alfred, they're reliable and steady people who will persist until a task is complete.
Barbara Kean: ESFP
Barbara Kean, Jim's ex girl-friend and Barbara Gordon's mother, has been portrayed as a quite peculiar character in Gotham, and this version of her falls into the ESFP (Extraverted, Sensing, Feeling, Perceiving) personality type.
ESFPs are extremely charming people and they're often referred to as "The Performer" because of their enthusiasm and desire to be at the center of attention. The latter is one of Barbara's most basic traits, especially when she was obsessed with Jim Gordon and, then, with taking over Gotham's underworld.
Selina Kyle: ISTP
This young version of Selina Kyle, or Cat, falls into the ISTP (Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, Perceiving) personality type. Common features about this personality type are fearlessness, intensity, and self-sufficiency. Cat is independent despite her age, for she's a homeless kid who has always provided for herself on her own.
She's also spontaneous and open to new possibilities, moreover, she loves to undertake risky activities in which her intelligence and powers of observation come in handy.
Lee Thompkins: ESFJ
Doctor Lee Thompkins is one of the most kind-hearted characters of the show. Despite all the terrible events she goes through, even when breaking the rules she follows her moral code, which is all about helping others. That's why she's an ESFJ (Extraverted, Sensing, Feeling, Judging).
Lee deeply cares about people in need, and she always chooses to be good and fight for justice and equality, despite the difficult times. Her personality type is also referred to as "The Provider", which is Lee's role when she becomes the Doc in the Narrows.
Edward Nygma: INTJ
Gotham differentiates between Edward Nygma and the Riddler, depicting them as two different sides of the same coin (however, the show never game him a multiple personality disorder). Once Ed fully accepts his Riddler side, he falls into the INTJ type (Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Judging), also known as "The Mastermind".
Ed's aware and proud of his intellect and analytical schemes; he's also occasionally referred to as "smartest guy in Gotham". He stages his crimes in innovative ways, filling them with riddles and creative situations.
Ivy Pepper: INFJ
Ivy Pepper, or Poison Ivy, fits the INFJ (Introversion, Intuition, Feeling, and Judging) personality type. Initially, she's just a friend of Catwoman, friendship in which she exhibits "Counselor"'s traits such as reservedness and selectiveness regarding the people she surrounds herself with.
The INFJ type is also idealistic, a feature that becomes more relevant when she obtains her human-plant hybrid powers as she starts imaging an all green idealistic future, in which the green overcomes humans and she lives happily with her plants.
Jeremiah Valeska: ENTP
Jeremiah Valeska is one of the two Valeska twins, or rather the characters who carry the Joker figure. At the of the last season, Jeremiah officially becomes Joker. In both versions, the character fits the ENTP (Extraverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Perceiving) type. Typical of this personality is the capacity to come up with innovative ideas, that Jeremiah creates thanks to his knowledge in engineering.
Other traits are his sharp cleverness, the unconventionality of his style and manners, and their tendency to influence other people (such as Ecco and his insane followers).
