New filming details for Avengers: Doomsday and returning directing duo the Russo brothers have only compounded my hopes for the MCU's Phase 6.

With the Russo brothers reing Marvel Studios to helm Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, I've been wondering how similar these movies will be to the Doomsday and Secret Wars will be huge installments in the MCU, the Russo brothers' new reveal has me thinking Phase 6 could be even bigger.

Avengers 5 & 6 Will Not Be Filmed Back-To-Back

Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame were intricately connected to each other, and this was apparent in the way the epic Infinity Saga movies were filmed. The Russo brothers filmed Infinity War and Endgame back-to-back, beginning in January 2017, with a four-week break between July and August, and filming for Endgame ending in January 2018. In a conversation with and Secret Wars will be filmed very differently, not back-to-back at all.

Joe Russo: It'll be similar, but we'll have a larger break in between the two movies than we did. I think it was four weeks maybe? Was it four weeks between Infinity War and Endgame?

Anthony Russo: I think it was a couple of weeks. But no, these are not as separated as you would normally separate two films of this scale, but they're more substantially separated [than Infinity War and Endgame] by a year or so.

Instead, it seems there will be a year-long gap between filming for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. adaptation of Marvel Comics' epic Secret Wars event.

Ant-Man & The Wasp & Captain Marvel Didn't Connect Infinity War & Endgame Enough

The fact that Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars will be more separated than Infinity War and Endgame has me thinking that the projects filming and releasing between them will better connect the two movies. Infinity War and Endgame tried to accomplish this, releasing Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel in the year-long space between them. However, I wasn't pleased with how little these movies connected to Infinity War and Endgame's overarching storyline, as only their post-credits scenes addressed it.

Marvel Studios' complete filming schedule is uncertain, so it's not clear which movies will be filming in the space between Doomsday and Secret Wars. I would love for these movies to have more of an impact on Phase 6's Avengers projects, however, more directly bridging the gap between Doomsday's sure-to-be dramatic ending and the beginning of Secret Wars. I know exactly how Marvel Studios can explain this within the context of the MCU and the Secret Wars storyline, too, and this has me hopeful that Battleworld will finally be seen in the MCU.

Marvel Studios Introducing Battleworld Will Make Phase 6 The MCU's Biggest Era Yet

The Russo brothers have promised us that Marvel Comics' Secret Wars event will be adapted as faithfully as possible, which has me thinking that Battleworld will be a significant location in Phase 6. Battleworld was created by Doctor Doom in Secret Wars from the fragmented pieces of destroyed universes after incursion events ravaged the multiverse. With Robert Downey Jr. set to debut as Doctor Doom in the MCU's Phase 6, this storyline could be brought into live-action very accurately, but I reckon this narrative is too big just for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

Robert Downey Jr. previously portrayed Tony Stark's Iron Man in ten MCU movies between 2008's Iron Man and 2019's Avengers: Endgame, he was confirmed to be debuting as Doctor Doom at this year's SDCC presentation in July.

With a bigger gap in between the filming scheduled for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, I reckon projects filming during this period could pay closer attention to the movies' overarching narrative. I would love for these projects to be set entirely on Battleworld, introducing some weird and wonderful variants and completely new stories that will seriously shake up the MCU. The Russo brothers' new comments make me think Battleworld's prominence in Phase 6 is even more likely, allowing the Multiverse Saga's conclusion to extend beyond just two movies.
