With many Avengers: Endgame may be seen as a blueprint since it satisfyingly brought all the stories in the Infinity Saga together to lead up to the cinematic battle against Thanos.
The movie was a well tied-together end to the Infinity Saga, with soaring victories and heartwrenching losses, but everything about the finale was not perfect. The 3-hour-long extravaganza had many cringeworthy scenes, which Reddit was quick to point out.
The Hulk Dab
According to Hulk was one of the best Avengers, but this obvious pop culture reference seemed forced.
The Redditor discusses, "The problem with memes and pop culture references like these is that they will feel dated in a few years' time - if they don't already." This is true because the dab was weird then, and it continues to be even today.
Spider-Man's Dialogues
The Tom Holland Spider-Man movies had some cringey parts, and Redditors felt this extended to Spider-Man's dialogues in Avengers: Endgame, too. Omir-Laa thought "most of Spider Man's dialogue" was cringey because he spoke too pretentiously in tense situations.
Spider-Man was young and jumpy, but his overly chirpy quotes during the war and whenever he messed up got annoying pretty quickly. However, at the same time, fans appreciate Spider-Man's youthful energy, especially as one of the younger Avengers fighting in the Battle of Earth and protecting humanity from another Thanos catastrophe.
Black Panther Asking For The Gauntlet
The MCU is known for its dramatics and flamboyant superheroism, and the Black Panther is an adored fan favorite in the movies. In the midst of battle, loss of life and confusion, c-peg thought, "Black panther looking into the camera and saying "Clint, give it to me." Just way too on the nose."
Of course, this scene was a callback to T'Challa's scene with Clint at the airport battle in Civil War after the Wakandan king initially dismissed any care about his name. While it was well-intentioned to show how much things changed, the cringe is partly true because one would expect more tactical language in combat rather than full sentences, which would be hard to articulate in the chaos.
The Easy Decapitation Of Thanos
Some fans rolled their eyes when they witnessed Thanos' relatively easy death after being presented as the formidable foe he was made out to be in Avengers: Infinity War. The remaining Avengers just grabbed him and managed to slice his head off, which was anti-climactic.
Redditors would change from Avengers: Endgame if they could.
The Gathering Of Female Heroes
A moment which was considered a victorious union of every female (and identifying) superhero in Avengers: Endgame made a select few Redditors cringe. This concern was raised by IcyExplanation8 who felt it was "Terrible choice to put that in there" because it was too well-coordinated without showing walky-talkies or any comms between them.
While the scene symbolizes girl power and allows little girls to see this all-female line-up as progress in the superhero genre, it also seemed like a forced gimmick that was not practically executed and was an inconvenient plot device.
Star-Lord And Thor's Argument About Being In-Charge
Thor went through formative life events in Avengers: Endgame, yet continued to fight Quill on who was in-charge of the ship when he got onto it. The gag was funny at first, but as BorisFrodeno said, "I don’t get how that’s funny and drag(ged) on too long."
The fight actually went on till the very end of Avengers: Endgame, and it seemed like an awful waste of time to show the battle between male egos in the superhero flick.
Thor Being Mocked For His Weight
After losing his home, family, friends, and feeling like a disappointment after Avengers: Infinity War, the only takeaway was that Thor got fat, which was very insensitive and unfortunate. This Redditor lamented, "...the jokes about his obvious mental and identity crisis felt so out of touch and not that funny for the most part."
It was cringey how everyone piled on to Thor's misery just because of his weight, the worst of which was Rhodes' joke about Cheese Whiz running through Thor's veins. Instead of helping Thor cope with the guilt that lingered over him, the Avengers continued to mock him, which didn't help matters.
The Fortnite Segment
Like most others, Fortnite gameplay in the movie at all, and it dated the movie with its existence.
The random pop culture references to make the movie look relevant and cool only backfired, and nobody really saw the point of dedicating a sequence to it, or even showing which game it was that Korg was playing.
Hawkeye's Random Japan Sequence
Hawkeye went to a shadowed place after the disappearance of his family, but his sequence in Japan was too long and too out of place for many Redditors. It was a bit too contrived to see him become so obviously dark and conflicted.
LifesaMitch thought "What on Earth is he doing in Japan killing random gangsters?" when he watched the awkwardly placed fight scene. In particular, there was no prior connection to why Clint was targeting the Yakuza, and the scene still didn't explain why he had undergone such a dark vigilante pursuit.
Scott Getting Bullied
Ant-Man got the short end of the stick in Avengers: Endgame and was constantly ridiculed for being affable, small, out of the loop, or simply for his presence. "The bullying of Scott in Endgame didn’t make much sense to me," said yanderlei.
It was childish and silly and could have been avoided altogether. Marvel should be past the stage where talking down to someone is considered comic relief.
