Since the interact much on screen due to time constraints. Because of this, there are a lot of characters who would have made great friends if the story had allowed for it.

While it’s a shame that these characters never got to become friends in the canon, it is interesting to imagine why they would make good pairs. And, for some of these characters, it’s still entirely possible that they could form a bond later on as they are still an active part of the MCU.

Pepper Potts and Maria Hill

Pepper Potts and Maria Hill

The MCU didn’t do the best job at first of including well-written, complex female characters that weren’t just sidekicks or love interests. And, this is still something that they need to improve somewhat.

Because of this, many of the best female characters from early on didn’t interact with each other that much, and it's a shame. Pepper and Maria might have different careers, but they are both driven, capable women who have to put up with always being surrounded by superheroes.

Thor and Scott Lang

Ant-man and Thor

While Thor has made friendships with many characters and created some rather adorable odd-couple moments, he hasn’t gotten to know Scott Lang yet. While they have different life experiences and responsibilities, they both have their own unique sense of humor.

Both of these characters are generally pretty positive and upbeat when it comes to life, and Thor would likely find Ant-Man rather delightful and like to joke around with him.

Tony Stark and Bucky Barnes

Tony and Bucky

While most of the duos on this list would make good friends because they’d instantly hit it off, some of the best friendships in fiction can come out of rivalries.

The MCU really dropped the ball by not ever giving these two a chance to reconcile and forgive one another before Tony died. But, in another world, they could have bonded over their shared traumas, and Tony could have even helped Bucky out with some tech.

Loki and Doctor Strange

This is another pair that probably wouldn’t be fast friends, but it’s not because they have a traumatic or dramatic history between them. Instead, they would be friends who were in more of a rivalry situation as they are both magical in their own ways.

While Loki is the God of Mischief and Doctor Strange is basically a space wizard at this point, they do have a lot in common even if they might find the other a little bit annoying. This would definitely lead to some hilarious moments.

Scarlet Witch and Nebula

Nebula and Scarlet Witch

While Scarlet Witch and Nebula never interacted on screen, this is another real shame. Both of these characters have endured very traumatic events, and these events made them into villains at first.

But, they both come to their own redemption but still harbor a lot of guilt and frustration. In these ways, they would be able to relate to one another and possibly find comfort in friendship.

Gamora and Valkyrie

Gamora and Valkyrie

Gamora is a character who hasn't gotten her due in the MCU. After killing off the current Gamora in Endgame, it’s only her past self that is back in the story. All of this aside, she and Valkyrie would make a good pair. They are both intelligent, badass women who are from different planets, so they do exist in sort of the same sphere.

They would definitely enjoy sharing a drink and rolling their eyes at the bunch of weirdos around them. And, it seems like there is potential for these two to become friends in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Natasha Romanoff and Sharon Carter

These two women are two other characters that didn’t always get fair treatment at first. While they are both interesting, strong women, they never really interacted. The lack of interaction between women in the MCU is a huge problem. But, these two really would have had a lot in common.

They are both skilled in hand-to-hand combat, and they both worked for SHIELD. They also don’t have powers, and they would have kicked ass in a team-up. Also, they both had the same connections (such as Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson), so it seems silly the two women never interacted.

Steve Rogers and Carol Danvers

Steve Rogers and Carol Danvers

While Steve and Carol do know each other, fans don’t really get any scenes of them interacting except on a minimal basis. This was definitely a missed opportunity. These two have a lot in common.

They are both “captains” who have military experience and who are loyal and protective of those they love. They are personable and friendly, and they would have made great co-leads who would challenge one another but also have a lot of respect for the other.

Sam Wilson and Rhodey

Armor Wars Falcon vs war machine

This friendship was somewhat developed in Avengers: Infinity War, but it would be nice to see more of them in the future. Their scenes in Infinity War prove that they have a good back and forth banter and understand one another while also having enough differences in personality to keep things interesting.

Hopefully, these two cross paths once again in future movies or TV shows as they have both worked alongside the Avengers for years.

Shuri and Peter Parker

Peter Parker and Shuri - Tom Holland and Letitia Wright

Quite a few fans have talked about wanting these two to meet, and it makes a lot of sense. Both of these characters are teenage geniuses who love tech and science and inventing.

Shuri would fit in well with Peter Parker and his friends, and they would absolutely be blown away and in awe of her lab in Wakanda. They would get along well, and Shuri would definitely tease Peter Parker for being a bit dorky.
