Marvel Studios got the film rights to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four back from 20th Century Fox recently in X-Men franchise that fans really love and didn’t die in an Oscar-nominated 2017 masterpiece.
Star-Lord
As Marvel’s two most immature characters, a meeting of Wade Wilson and Peter Quill would be a lot of fun. You only need to look at Quill’s interactions with Thor to see how hilarious he is when his leadership is challenged by a powerful, equally big-headed superhuman. When ‘Pool breaks the fourth wall, Quill would probably pretend to be in on it, looking off and talking to empty space – not to a character, but not to the camera either. Plus, Deadpool’s stories are so crazy and out-of-the-left-field that it’s only a matter of time before the only thing he can do and still surprise the audience is go to space.
Captain Marvel
If Negasonic Teenage Warhead has taught us anything, it’s that the only characters who make good intellectual sparring partners for Deadpool are who command the screen when they’re in a film, so if they were in one together, both playing their superhero characters, it would be a cinematic event for the ages. They’d spend the whole runtime taking the air out of each other’s tires.
Thor
Since Taika Waititi’s one of the funniest characters in the MCU. Thor’s humor comes from his arrogance, his delusions about himself, and his need to one-up everybody.
This would make him a perfect comedic partner for Deadpool, who suffers from all the same things. It’d be like Thor’s hilarious conversations with Star-Lord, except it could go even further and escalate into violence, because Deadpool can have his arm ripped off and grow it right back, so he’d be a physical match for the God of Thunder.
Ant-Man
Ant-Man is the closest thing in the MCU to an overtly comedic character like Deadpool. Paul Rudd’s performance as Scott Lang has some emotional depth when it counts, but his solo movies are the only MCU installments that could be categorized as full-blown comedies. So, to make the comic tone of the the confident and idiotic Lang butting heads with the confident and idiotic Wade Wilson.
Rocket
Both Deadpool and Rocket are characterized by lined up to star in a buddy cop movie together a few years ago, but that movie fell through. A Deadpool/Rocket team-up would be a great way to finally get them in scenes together.
Valkyrie
When Deadpool insults people or makes jokes at their expense, it’s not fun unless they bite back. This is why his interactions with characters like Domino, Cable, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead are Avengers: Endgame, so doing the same with Deadpool would be very characteristic of her, and a treat for Marvel fans.
Hawkeye
Hawkeye and Deadpool have teamed up in the comics, with the Merc with a Mouth relentlessly mocking Avengers: Endgame, we saw Clint Barton briefly go down a dark path as “Ronin” while his family were gone. Now, he’ll likely be back to normal, because his family’s safe, but it could be funny to have Deadpool go on a mission with him and constantly make fun of the twists and turns in his character arc. It’d be a great way to get meta with the fans’ derision of Hawkeye and show that Clint lets those jokes roll off his back.
Black Panther
A lot of the humor of the Deadpool character comes from his lack of respect for everybody. Even as Cable was about to kill him, he asked him if he was from the DC universe. So, let’s see him pair up with a guy whose position commands respect by nature: a king.
The undersea earthquake off the coast of Wakanda mentioned in set up a rivalry with Namor the Sub-Mariner in T’Challa’s future, but there’s probably a way to fit Deadpool into that story. Maybe he fancies a vacation and waltzes into T’Challa’s palace for a place to stay.
Drax the Destroyer
Drax’s humor comes from the fact that he takes everything literally, and therefore doesn’t understand people’s jokes and insults. He’d be the perfect foil for Deadpool, whose humor comes from constantly hurling jokes and insults at people. Because of this, Deadpool and Drax would make an excellent double act for comedy. But they’d also make a strong dramatic pairing, since they’re both driven by the loss of the only people they loved in the world and they’re both trying to open themselves up to a new surrogate family. For Drax, it’s the Guardians of the Galaxy. For Deadpool, it’s the X-Force. For at least one movie, it could be each other.
Spider-Man
Rob Liefeld, co-creator of the Deadpool character, has said recently that the rumors that Deadpool will make his MCU debut in the next Tom Holland’s neurotic, baby-faced Spider-Man team up with the Merc with a Mouth.
