Though it was a good two years between Spider-Man: Far From Home and WandaVision, now that the MCU cogs are back in motion again, there’s no slowing down the machine.
On top of all the announced Disney+ series, be it the reality skewing Loki or the introduction of a new character in Ms. Marvel, the movies are returning bigger than ever too. Though some might be a few years down the line, there are so many MCU movies in development to be excited about, whether it’s returning to Wakanda, going deeper into the quantum realm, or the introduction of an R-rated film.
Black Panther 2 (2022)
Disney have an impossible task on their hands, as nobody can fill the boots of Chadwick Boseman. After his tragic ing, Marvel is still pressing on with a Black Panther follow-up, but it has been confirmed that the studio is not planning on recasting the character of King T’Challa, but instead focusing on a new character.
Though the question of who will take the throne remains up in the air, the movie has just entered pre-production and still has a scheduled release date of July 2022. And along with the movie, the world of Wakanda will be expanded upon even further, as Black Panther 1 & 2 director Ryan Coogler is spearheading an as yet untitled Wakanda Disney+ series too.
The Fantastic Four (TBA)
Though the 2015 movie didn’t match the source material in the slightest, and the two movies that came before that were camp and comical, the characters are now back in the safe hands of Marvel. So there’s still hope that fans of the comic books will get a quality movie about the Fantastic Four that they deserve.
Though it won’t come without a few disappointments along the way, as fans were sure that Reed Richards would appear in WandaVision, which never happened, and there’s still a couple of years until he’ll be seen. On top of that, it seems like if John Krasinski and Emily Blunt aren’t cast as Reed and Sue Storm, there’ll be a riot in the fan community.
Blade (TBA)
There are loads of remakes cinephiles Blade. Though there isn’t any release date set in stone as yet, Blade is currently in development with shooting planned to begin at the end of the year.
Blade has been cast, as Mahershala Ali will be donning the shades and cape as the cool vampire hunter in the MCU reboot, and it has even opened up the possibility of R-rated Marvel movies. Fans are ravenous for the movie, as there has been so much fan art of Ali as the vampire hunter more than any other superhero.
Deadpool 3 (TBA)
After pitching crossovers of their own, whether it’s with Spider-Man or Captain Marvel. However, there’s actually not much that’s concrete about the third Deadpool movie.
However, it is happening and fans are lucky it’s even happening at all, as it was touch and go there for a while. Coming at least four years after Deadpool 2, it’s better late than never. And most important of all is that Marvel has confirmed that it’ll remain R-rated, despite Disney head Bob Iger having concerns about it.
X-Men (TBA)
After Disney acquired 20th Century Fox a couple of years ago, the best thing about it was that the X-Men rights went back to its rightful owner, Marvel.
Rebooting the X-Men series is bittersweet, as the series is a total mess when it comes to timelines and continuity, and half of the movies are overwhelmingly negatively received, but it also features irreplaceable depictions of the characters. Though Evan Peters, who plays Quicksilver in the X-Men universe, was expertly stunt-casted in WandaVision, Kevin Feige has all but confirmed that all of the characters will be entirely recast, but it’s still in its very early stages of development.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
Fans are at least a solid 2 years away from seeing anything about Guardians Vol. 3, as director James Gunn is one busy man. Not only is he promoting the Suicide Squad, but he’s also working on the TV spin-off Peacemaker, along with the Disney+ Guardians Holiday Special, and that’s all before he gets to work on shooting the space epic.
But when it does finally drop, it’ll see Star-Lord and Thor again locking horns, as the God of Thunder will be script is finished, and where he found the time to do it is anybody’s guess.
Captain America 4 (TBA)
Right off the heels of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, or, as it was renamed at the end of the finale episode, Captain America and the Winter Soldier, Marvel have just recently announced that they are developing Captain America 4. It was well earned, as the whole series was clearly leading up to Sam becoming the new Captain, and things were done with the shield that had never been done before.
The big reveal when Sam flies in to the government building in the new suit was the most exciting thing to happen in the MCU since Steve Rogers whispered “Avengers, assemble” in Endgame. Not much is known about the sequel as it has just been announced, but Michael Spellman, who was the head writer on the series, will write the screenplay.
