The Marvel Cinematic Universe is all set for its next Phase (or Avengers 4. There are still five films to go before the ongoing Phase 3 wraps up for the successful superhero franchise series, but the film studio is already thinking several steps ahead, proving they have no plans of slowing down.
Entering their 10th year since entering the business of movie making, Marvel Studios is looking to celebrate their milestone year with three films in 2018 - Ant-Man and the Wasp. But as we slowly inch our way towards the end of the MCU as we know it, the beginning of something new is coming. And while Feige and his cohorts are keen on focusing on the task they have at hand, that does not mean that they don't have a clear path in of where the franchise is heading in the long run.

Talking to Vanity Fair in light of the media outlet's coverage of the MCU, Feige shares that they already have a good idea where the MCU will go in the years to come with 20 more films already in development. Comparing that to the pace that they have taken in the last decade, it's safe to say that all the projects will cover at least 10 more years worth of storytelling for the popular franchise:
"22 movies in, and we’ve got another 20 movies on the docket that are completely different from anything that’s come before—intentionally."
More than just the number of projects, what is more interesting is the last bit from Feige's comment, saying that all those movies will be unique from each other. Despite their successes, some critics feel that Marvel films aresuperhero fatigue.
Another interesting thing to consider is the possibility of other Marvel characters, such as the ones currently with Fox, eventually coming back to Marvel Studios. Despite sales talks between Disney and Fox are eyeing to have his hands on the X-Men and Fantastic Four. Should the merger eventually pushes through in the future, it will be curious how the mutants and the iconic foursome will factor into the bigger MCU picture.
As of now, we can only speculate about the future of the MCU, especially with Avengers 4 still a mystery in itself. We do know, however, that James Gunn's usher us into the new era of the franchise. It's safe to say, we'll get to know more about it when the still-untitled Avengers film debuts in two years as a lot of things are currently hinging on what goes down in the epic blockbuster.
