Summary

  • Several Scarlet Witch storylines from WandaVision remain unresolved, indicating that Wanda's story in the MCU is not yet over.
  • WandaVision created new mysteries regarding Vision, Agatha Harkness, and the true nature of Wanda's powers.
  • The unanswered questions surrounding Wanda's children, Agatha's fate, and the prophecy of the Scarlet Witch are set to be addressed in future MCU projects.

More than three years have ed since WandaVision’s finale, but there are several Scarlet Witch storylines the MCU has yet to finish. While Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness worked as a sequel to WandaVision, the movie only partially addressed the aftermath of Westview. The events of WandaVision helped explain why and how Wanda could become a villain in Doctor Strange 2, but Scarlet Witch’s story in the MCU does not seem to be over. Between WandaVision’s unanswered questions and Scarlet Witch’s multiverse-related powers, Wanda’s return to the Multiverse Saga seems very likely.

WandaVision is widely considered one of the best Disney+ MCU shows, especially because of how well the series’ mystery boxes worked on a weekly release format. That said, the WandaVision finale did not answer every question the show raised. In fact, WandaVision created some new mysteries regarding Wanda and other key characters like Vision and Agatha Harkness. Here are 10 Scarlet Witch storylines set up in WandaVision that have yet to be addressed.

10 Will White Vision & Wanda Reunite After WandaVision?

White Vision and Scarlet Witch Reunion Image

Vision’s death in Avengers: Infinity War was not retconned, but the character has been brought back twice. The “Hex Vision” was the one created by Wanda as part of her pocket reality in Westviwer. This Vision presumably ceased to exist when Wanda undid the Hex. However, WandaVision introduced a second version of the character – White Vision. The White Vision was created by SWORD to be a weapon, and now he has the memories of the original Vision. Where did White Vision go after WandaVision is a question the MCU has yet to answer. Likewise, whether White Vision and Wanda will ever interact again remains to be seen.

9 Is Evan Peters’ Ralph Bohner Wanda’s Actual Brother In Another Universe?

Evan Peters as Ralph Bohner in WandaVision

When Evan Peters appeared in WandaVision as a “recast” Pietro Maximoff, it seemed like the MCU’s Phase 4 had finally embraced the multiverse. With Marvel Studios now able to use X-Men characters, Evan Peters’ role in WandaVision was massive news and led to dozens of theories about the MCU’s multiverse. Peters had originally played Quicksilver, Magneto’s son, in the FOX X-Men movies. Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda, on the other hand, was never a mutant in the MCU. However, despite all the exciting possibilities, Evan Peters’ character was not Pietro after all. WandaVision’s finale revealed fake Pietro to be “Ralph Bohner,” a citizen of Westview.

As far as the MCU has revealed, Agatha Harkness simply used Ralph Bohner to play the role of Pietro Maximoff in Wanda’s Hex, which obviously also worked as a meta-joke regarding the X-Men movies. Still, given how important the multiverse would turn out to be in the MCU after WandaVision, the “fake Pietro” storyline feels like it could’ve been part of something bigger. Several legacy Marvel characters from the FOX movies are now in the MCU, including Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Therefore, the MCU could still revisit WandaVision’s Ralph Bohner and confirm Evan Peters’ character as an alternate version of Quicksilver.

8 How Much Influence Did The Darkhold Have On Scarlet Witch In Doctor Strange 2?

wanda reading the darkhold in wandavision post-credits scene

WandaVision introduced brought Marvel Comics’ Darkhold into the MCU to explain how Wanda’s magic could evolve so quickly. The Darkhold also tied into Agatha Harkness’ plans for Wanda and served as a McGuffin in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In addition, Doctor Strange 2 established that the Darkhold was corrupting Wanda, just like it does with all of its uses. However, Doctor Strange 2 did not give a solid answer regarding how much influence the Darkhold had on Scarlet Witch during the events of the movie. The Darkhold’s influence can be used to justify an eventual Scarlet Witch redemption arc, but it depends on how much agency Wanda has.

7 How Long Will Agatha Harkness’ Mind Prison Last?

Wandavision's agatha harkness

WandaVision ended with Scarlet Witch trapping Agatha Harkness in a mind prison, just like Wanda had done with the citizens of Westview. Agatha is now living in the same illusion she helped Wanda build, although no other people are part of it. This could have been the end of Agatha Harkness’ story in the MCU, but the character is confirmed to return in the MCU’s Phase 5. Agatha is receiving her own series, Agatha: Covent of Chaos, which will likely take place after WandaVision. How long Wanda’s illusion lasts, and how Agatha managed to break free of it, are questions that Coven of Chaos must answer.

6 Were Scarlet Witch’s Children Real At Any Point?

Billy and Tommy Powers in WandaVision

How exactly Wanda’s Hex constructs worked has yet to be explained. At first, it was easy to assume that everything Wanda created inside the Hex was not real. However, WandaVision’s ending and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness revealed that Tommy and Billy existed in other universes. This raises the question of whether Scarlet Witch’s children were real at any point in WandaVision. In the comics, Wanda’s reality-warping powers are not necessarily tied to the multiverse. However, in the MCU, Wanda’s creations in the Hex may be tied to other versions of her in the multiverse.

5 Will WandaVision’s Billy & Tomy Return In Another MCU Project?

Billy and Tommy as Wiccan and Speed in WandaVision

Billy and Tommy returned in Doctor Strange 2, but not the same versions from WandaVision. Multiverse of Madness saw Earth-616 Wanda trying to move to another universe where her children existed, regardless of the consequences. Scarlet Witch eventually realized that she could not steal another Wanda’s life and that she had become a monster in the eyes of those versions of Billy and Tommy. That said, Wanda’s children are important Marvel Comics characters and grow to become superheroes – Wiccan and Speed. With the MCU setting up a Young Avengers project, at least a version of Billy and Tommy will likely return in Phase 5.

4 Did Wanda Give Pietro His Powers?

Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen as Pietro Maximoff and Wanda Maximoff in Avengers Age of Ultron and WandaVision

WandaVision retconned Wanda’s powers six years after Avengers: Age of Ultron introduced the character as an “enhanced human.” Marvel Studios could not use any part of the X-Men’s mythos when Wanda and Pietro were brought for Phase 2, which is why they were “enhanced humans” powered by the Mind Stone rather than mutants. However, WandaVision established that Wanda always had magic, and the Mind Stone only unlocked her powers. This created a mystery regarding the true origin of Pietro’s powers. Quicksilver’s abilities have nothing to do with magic unless Wanda indirectly gave her brother powers during the HYDRA experiments.

3 Can Scarlet Witch Still Be A Mutant In The MCU After WandaVision?

Scarlet Witch In WandaVision And Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness

When Wanda ed the MCU, it seemed unlikely that Marvel Studios would ever get to use mutants and the X-Men. However, following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, mutants are now part of the MCU. In theory, Marvel could retcon Wanda and Pietro as mutants and bring the characters’ journey in the comics full circle. However, WandaVision has already retconned Scarlet Witch’s powers. Wanda is now a magic being in the MCU, and “The Scarlet Witch” is an ancient legend rather than a superhero alias. WandaVision did not rule out Wanda being a mutant, but it made another retcon much more tricky.

2 What Does The Scarlet Witch Prophecy Mean For Wanda’s Future In The MCU?

the scarlet witch in doctor strange 2 with agatha harkness in wandavision

WandaVision introduced the prophecy of the Scarlet Witch, turning Wanda’s alias from the comics into an ancient title used by other Nexus beings. Doctor Strange 2 referenced this prophecy, with Wong saying that the Scarlet Witch will either conquer or destroy the multiverse. Assuming that Wanda did not die in Doctor Strange 2, the Scarlet Witch prophecy may still come into play. Marvel’s Multiverse Saga will culminate into Avengers: Secret Wars, which is expected to deal with Incursions and the future of the multiverse itself. Wanda’s role in the future of the multiverse could be a central part of Secret Wars, perhaps with Scarlet Witch facing Kang the Conqueror.

1 Who Were The Other Scarlet Witches?

scarlet witch death in doctor strange in the multiverse of madness

Both WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness made it seem like Scarlet Witch is a title rather than something exclusively associated with Wanda. If there were temples and prophecies dedicated to the Scarlet Witch thousands of years ago, Wanda could not have been the first Scarlet Witch. Interestingly, the vision of the Scarlet Witch Wanda had when she was a child looked very much like adult Wanda. Perhaps Wanda is the reincarnation of the previous Scarlet Witches, which would explain why Wanda was born special. WandaVision’s Scarlet Witch retcon was a major change to the character’s mythos, and it could still be revisited in the MCU.
