Zoolander) in a madcap story about stay-at-home dad Sonny (Hart) and his former best friend Huck (Wahlberg). Finding himself home alone for a few days thanks to his wife and kids going on Spring Break, Sonny reunites with Huck for a 44th birthday party that they will not soon forget.
Netflix has happily collaborated with both comedic actors in the past. Hart starred in both the slapstick comedy Spenser Confidential. In addition to its leads, Me Time also boasts a stellar ensemble cast who ensure the laughs keep coming, such as Ilia Isorelýs Paulino as Thelma and Andrew Santino as Alan.
Screen Rant spoke to Paulino and Santino about what drew them to Me Time, what they would do with time spent home alone, and how COVID has changed their hobbies.
Screen Rant: What's the moment when reading the script that you were like, "I'm in!" Is there anything that particularly hooked you on this movie and ing it?
Ilia Isorelýs Paulino: I mean, the fact that most of my scenes are with Mark and Kevin. I was like, "This will take me to stardom. I have to do it."
Andrew Santino: I didn't read the script. No idea. Never read it. I don't even know what happens, but I've heard it's good.
You're in it.
Andrew Santino: In the movie?
You're in this movie.
Andrew Santino: Well, look at me. Pretty good. Nah, it was great. I mean it was super funny, and also John's made so much good stuff. So it was kind of a little bit of a no-brainer.
Ilia Isorelýs Paulino: I got time.
Andrew Santino: Yeah. Yeah. I'll fit him in. We slid him into our schedule, basically.
Ilia Isorelys: We really did. They had to beg a little bit, and I was like, "Fine. Get off your knees."
Andrew Santino: Yeah. Get up.
There is an artist that Sonny loves, that's like his ideal concert. Who is yours? Maybe it's something that you went to?
Ilia Isorelys: If I die never seeing Beyonce perform live, I don't think I would have lived a complete life, and where's the camera? Hi. This probably will never make it to Beyonce, but just in case it does. I love you. That's it.
There are a few things in history where people where they were, and I feel like the Coachella performance, everyone re what they were doing.
Ilia Isorelys: At home. Because I couldn't go. Crying.
Andrew Santino: Sorry.
Ilia Isorelys: Let's not talk about it.
Andrew Santino: I was there backstage.
Ilia Isorelys: Shut, no you weren't.
Andrew Santino: What's up, B. We've been kicking it for years. She's my number one. Jay-Z and I were in a jujitsu class together. That's how we all kind of met.
Ilia Isorelys: You just going to keep going.
Andrew Santino: And she's my favorite. And she's someone I've spent a lot of time with.
Ilia Isorelys: Of course. Of course.
Andrew Santino: I'll reach out to her for you.
Ilia Isorelys: Thank you. That's so nice.
I feel like the last few years have taken the concept of ‘me time’ to the next level and we've all kind of developed weird, odd hobbies. Is there anything that you picked up over the last few years that people wouldn’t expect?
Ilia Isorelys: During COVID I picked up pole dancing.
That's supposed to be really good for you.
Ilia Isorelys: It's amazing. It's the best workout out there, and you just feel so sexy and I think everyone and their mother should take at least one pole class. I put a pole up in my parents room, and my dad's a pastor, but it's okay. Because I was poling to Kirk Franklin.
Did you tell him first, or he walks upstairs and goes...
Ilia Isorelys: He walks and he's like, "Pole?" And I'm like fitness, and he's like, "Okay, I'll pray for you on Friday."
Andrew Santino People that dance on poles love God. Yeah,
Ilia Isorelys: Here I am.
Andrew Santino: So, yeah, no I took up, I'm old. So I took up walking. Walking is a big thing for me now I just will walk.
Ilia Isorelys: You just walk.
We call them hot girl walks.
Andrew Santino: Hot girl walk? Can I take one? Because I take a walk. That's what I do. I just walk until I'm tired. And then I call an Uber to take me back home. I just go as far out as I can go, because I don't like to plan my route based on how long it's going to take me to go back. So I just want to go as far as I can go and then I get tired and I take an Uber back home.
Ilia Isorelys: Are you like an avoidance-style person? I can tell.
Andrew Santino: I like to be alone on my little walk. And I don't listen to music or anything. I just think.
Ilia Isorelys: Do you run from trauma?
Andrew Santino: I run every day. About four or five miles a day. I don't know if it's from trauma or—I'm running, but I always come back. Isn't that nice? Like a dog. I come right back. You can hit me, but I'm coming back
What's the top thing you do when you have the weekend to yourself? No one's in the house.
Ilia Isorelys: Sleep. Cuddle my dog. Watch TV.
Andrew Santino: I don't spend a lot of time at the house; I'm out doing something. I always want to go do something. I'm not a homebody. I never got that. I'm up early. I'm out. I want to be gone.
But if I'm alone for a weekend alone, I'm probably going to go out drinking and just go party. Cause I like alcohol a lot. And they yelled at me on this, making this movie, because I was drinking on set a lot. They were wagging the finger, but I snuck a couple of friends back.
It's a party scene!
Andrew Santino: Leave me alone.
