Rumors of a remake of Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill publisher Konami is planning on reviving some of its older IPs, though the company has yet to confirm or deny the rumors.

The Metal Gear Solid series is one of the most beloved in gaming, being the source of a number of gameplay elements and features now taken for granted across a range of game genres. Originally created and helmed by Hideo Kojima, the series has pushed creative storytelling to its limits with fourth-wall-breaking dialogue, hour-long cinematics, memorable characters, and impressive stealth gameplay. With Kojima splitting from Konami in 2015, fans haven't been too hopeful for another Kojima MGS game until recently, with rumors claiming that Kojima could be ing the MGS remake.

As spotted by Twitter Faizan Shaikh (via VGC), previous reports that Virtuos is the studio developing a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake may have gained further validity thanks to LinkedIn. According to the LinkedIn page for Virtuous programmer Zhiyang Li, the developer is currently working on an "unannounced [AAA] action adventure remake" for multiple platforms. Li writes that the game will feature “[AAA] quality level art” as well as "set piece destruction" in 4K. While the LinkedIn update doesn't outright name the game or give any other hints as to what the remake may be, it does seem to back up previous VGC reports that Virtuos has been developing a remake of MGS 3.

While the rumors are still unconfirmed, if Konami is planning a revival of the Metal Gear Solid series, Virtuos is a studio with more than the necessary credentials. Virtuos has lots of experience when it comes to introducing older games to new audiences, helping to bring both BioShock: The Collection and XCOM 2 Collection to Nintendo Switch. The developer has also assisted on remakes, remasters, and ports, including Spyro: Reignited Trilogy, Dark Souls Remastered for Switch, and Battlefield 1.

Metal Gear Solid fans will have to wait a little longer to find out if Konami really is planning to release a remake of Snake Eater. Earlier this summer, Konami announced that it currently has multiple projects in deep development, which has fuelled speculations of revivals of franchises including both MGS and Silent Hill. Hopefully, official news, announcements, and reveals are right around the corner.
