Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is shaping up to be an incredibly faithful remake for one of the most critically acclaimed entries in the franchise. Following the origin story of Big Boss himself and how he acquired his iconic title, Metal Gear Solid Delta will follow Solid Snake's predecessor through the jungles of Russia during the height of the Cold War. Being the only person standing in the way of an all-out war, Snake will confront former allies and make unlikely alliances in this high-definition remake of the beloved PS2 game.

Ever since Metal Gear Solid Delta's first trailer, Konami has been slowly teasing the remake by revealing gorgeous screenshots and new features making their way into the game. While the remake aims to provide a nearly identical experience to the original, Metal Gear Solid Delta's massive visual overhaul and quality of life improvements will likely make Delta the definitive way to experience the origin story of Big Boss. Being a must-play for any Metal Gear Solid fan, the success of the remake could even lead to further remakes of past entries as well.

When Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Releases

Sony Finally Offers A Definitive Date For The Exciting Remake

While the release date was unintentionally leaked not long before Sony's State of Play, Metal Gear Solid Delta has been officially announced for an August 28, 2025, release date, arriving simultaneously on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The release date trailer showed numerous iconic moments later in the game, including the bombastic confrontation with Colonel Volgin driving the nuclear-armed tank. On top of these gameplay segments, Metal Gear Solid Delta's Cobra Unit took center stage in the release date footage, providing a deeper insight into what their deadly encounters will look like in the full release.

Despite Metal Gear Solid Delta not having the added influence of Hideo Kojima, its nature as a near one-to-one remake means fans won't feel the absence nearly as much as an original entry in the series. Being developed and published in-house by Konami, the creators have expressed their desire to stay true to the vision of the original game while adding some much-needed improvements.

Even the Delta symbol of the game's title has a deeper meaning for the series, being more than just a catchy title for the remake. The developers have claimed the name Delta expresses their desire to change the game enough to take it into the next generation without altering the original structure, as announced by the official Metal Gear X .

Plenty Of Options For In-Game Cosmetics And Official Merchandise

With how many different versions of Metal Gear Solid Delta there are to purchase, it can be a bit confusing at first glance. Aside from the various regional collector's editions, Metal Gear Solid Delta can be purchased as either a standard or Digital Deluxe Edition, with individual pre-order bonuses for each.

Both pre-order bonuses will include the dapper White Tuxedo skin, although the deluxe version pre-order bonus adds a 48-hour early access period, letting players jump in before the game's standard release. The Digital Deluxe Edition also includes the Sneaking DLC Pack, which adds numerous cosmetics, including six detailed skins, two pairs of glasses, and two adorable animal face masks.

The deluxe version adds a 48-hour early access period, letting players jump in before the game's standard release.

Metal Gear Solid Delta is also available in the form of various collectors' editions which vary greatly per region, available for purchase through individual retailers like Best Buy, Amazon, or Game Stop in the U.S. Unfortunately, PC fans will have to make do with the digital deluxe edition, as the collectors' bundle is only available for purchase with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X copies of Metal Gear Solid Delta.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s Story

Providing A Fantastic Origin Story For The Legendary Big Boss

Taking place 41 years before the events of the first Metal Gear Solid, the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will follow the story of Operation Naked Snake, acting as the origin story for one of the series' most misunderstood anti-heroes. Dropped into an overgrown jungle with only the barest necessities, Naked Snake will have to make use of every tool he can get his hands on.

Check in for the latest news from the PlayStation State of Play in February 2025, where players should see some big reveals and new updates.

Much like the rest of the franchise, players will need to rely on stealth for much of the game if they want to survive against Delta's overwhelming odds. Thankfully, for moments where fighting is the only option left, the improved camera system is likely to make open combat much more approachable as a result.

The very nickname "Naked Snake" comes from Snake's lack of tools and equipment going into his dangerous mission.

Following Snake's failure during the Virtuous Mission, he is tasked with taking down the Cobra Unit and its founder, including his former mentor, while putting a stop to the threat that the nuclear-capable Shagohod poses to the world. While the mission seems simple at first, there's more than one mystery for Snake to unravel on his life-changing journey to save the world. Making new friends and facing off against old enemies, the events of Metal Gear Solid Delta will see the original Snake transform into the legendary Big Boss himself, infamous throughout the franchise.

Biggest Changes In Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

Offering An Authentic But Upgraded Metal Gear Solid 3 ExperienceApe Escape returns in Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater

Despite Metal Gear Solid Delta's faithful recreation of the original experience, there are still plenty of gameplay differences coming in the anticipated remake. Aside from the gorgeous visuals, the largest change is the reworked camera system in Metal Gear Solid Delta, giving players more freedom with a modern third-person perspective. Thankfully, however, Metal Gear Solid Delta will still include a more classic top-down perspective for fans of the original experience.

Metal Gear Solid Delta will also feature the remastered Ape Escape collaboration on PC and PS5, although the Xbox edition will receive a new Bomber Man-themed crossover instead.

The controls of Metal Gear Solid Delta are also much more reminiscent of the modern offering of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, providing a much more responsive sense of control and ability to interact with the environment. With Naked Snake's environment being a key part of Snake's survival toolkit, the camouflage and overall UI systems are being streamlined to provide a more dynamic and seamless gameplay experience without needing to slog through menus each time.

Further ing Metal Gear Solid Delta's accuracy, the original voice cast is returning in the form of both re-recorded voice lines and remastered audio from the original Metal Gear Solid 3. While there are plenty more changes from new difficulty styles, filter modes, and permanent outfit damage, they all work towards enhancing Metal Gear Solid Delta's gameplay experience rather than detracting from what made the original so beloved in the first place.
