Delta was revealed to great anticipation back in 2023. It was later announced for a 2024 release date, which was quietly pushed back to 2025 near the end of that year. Since then, there's been very little news on MGS Delta, but an update to its store page may have just changed that.

First spotted by a ResetEra , Metal Gear Solid Delta's PlayStation Store page was abruptly changed early this morning to reveal a release date of August 28, 2025. This came along with a new trailer, which allegedly revealed further details about the remake, providing a rundown of the game's iconic bosses, while The Boss narrates a basic summary of its story. The updated PSN page also apparently revealed that the Ape Escape crossover content from the original game will likely be preserved in the remake, maintaining the game's occasionally irreverent tone.

This may have been an accidental leak: MGS Delta is hotly anticipated, both by longtime fans of the franchise and prospective first-time players. It seems odd, to say the least, for its release date to appear suddenly on the PlayStation Store with zero fanfare or direct statement from Konami. Its other store pages - on Steam and the Xbox store - have yet to be updated.

A more structured announcement would make a lot more sense. Many fans expected something during Sony's rumored State of Play, or even just a social media post by Konami - channels that naturally already have a lot of eyes on them, instead of a sudden shadow drop where few would think to look. There's also the speed with which the details were removed from the store page, which seems to suggest we weren't supposed to see them.

An All-Time Classic, Rebuilt

Whatever the case, it's breathed a bit of new life into the MGS Delta hype cycle - not that it needed much help. The original Metal Gear Solid 3 is widely considered one of the greatest games of all time, and for good reason. It took the radar-watching, tactical espionage gameplay of MGS 1 and 2, and brought it back in time to the jungles of Soviet-era Russia. Players were forced to rely on their camouflage, their wits, and whatever resources they could scrounge up to stay out of enemy sight.

No, that is not Solid Snake! It's common for first-time Metal Gear players to confuse MGS 3's protagonist with MGS 1's, but you actually play as Naked Snake (AKA Big Boss) in Snake Eater.

Add that to a fantastic story of political intrigue and ersatz mother-son relationships, and you've got something truly special. MGS 3 tells the backstory of Big Boss, a villain in the first two Metal Gear games whose presence still looms large over the events of MGS 1 and 2. Codenamed Naked Snake, he's forced to cross enemy lines to assassinate his former mentor, The Boss (yes, that's a different character), who's defected to the Soviet Union. It introduces many of the series' most beloved characters, like Eva, Revolver Ocelot and Volgin, and is an important entry in series canon.

What's more, MGS 3 is the earliest-set game in the Metal Gear franchise. I suspect Konami might be setting up a bigger revival here, and using a Snake Eater remake to gauge player interest. Either way, though, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater looks like a very faithful remake, and it's worth checking out whether it's your first or your fiftieth time experiencing the series.
