The Devourer of Stars boss in Metaphor: ReFantazio is one of the hardest fights in the game and one of the highest-level enemies you will face. You will not be able to get through this fight using the Auto-Battle function, and you should pay close attention to know what to do next. While you have multiple options for what party to use, you need to think carefully about what they are and what items you will take with you.

While other bosses in Metaphor: ReFantazio are quite difficult, there are a lot of challenges in this fight mainly. It is meant to be an end-game boss, and so you will find that it is meant to test your abilities and what you have learned to get this far. This is one of three tough dragons you will have to face, and the Devourer of Stars comes with strong debuffs to use against your party.

How To Prepare For The Devourer Of Stars

Archetypes & Items

You should consider a few things when going into this boss fight. First and foremost, you do not want to bring any weak characters to Darkness. This enemy also has a very particular weakness: it can only be damaged in one way. If you do not have the moves required, the Devourer of Stars will not take damage.

Atlus has breached new territory with Metaphor: ReFantazio and in doing so has delivered a high-fantasy JRPG that's unlike anything we could've hoped.

The Devourer of Stars can only take damage from Almighty Skills or skills that create a one-time weakness. This boss also has a lot of ways to debuff your party. You will also want the following moves on as many characters as you can have them:

  • Back Boost
  • Magic Circle
  • Magic Boost

The item Enchanted Pottage buffs everyone's magic attack power. Dance of Purgelight and Hamadyne are also two of the strongest moves that can damage him. If you are looking for other possible skills, you can try Megido magic from the Commander Lineage or the Royal Sword Synthesis Attack from the Prince Archetype. The Gold Attack is another possibility from the Merchant Lineage, but that one comes with both pros and cons.

The Gold Attack is powerful, but you will have to spend 500 Reeves every time you want to use it as opposed to MP.

You can bring items from Brigitta’s shop that will let you use Almighty Magic and other gear items to help you resist Hexes and Poison. There are a few different archetypes for the characters that you can use quite well in this fight, but if you want to see the entire fight, you can see YouTuber secretbunnyninja’s breakdown.

This guide is meant to represent a fight in Normal Mode; other modes might be different.

While you may have different options, there are still some better choices than others regarding what party to assemble for this fight.

Best Party Setup To Beat The Devourer Of Stars

Characters & Abilities

Four party fighting Devourer of Stars in Metaphor: ReFantazio

You are going to want characters strong against Dark abilities. As luck would have it, the main protagonists, Heismay and Eupha, all have this resistance, making them good candidates for this fight. The fourth playable character could be anyone, but avoid Basilo since he is weak to it.

The recommended party therefore is:

  • Protagonist - Prince Archetype
  • Heismay - Commander Lineage
  • Junah - Persona Master
  • Eupha - Faker Lineage

As for the Archetypes, the Prince Archetype for the protagonist will work best. The others could be based on what skills you want to use, and recommendations have varied depending on preference. However, Persona Master has been strongly recommended, as there are various archetypes from the Commander and Faker lineages. The last one does matter, but picking a strong Archetype with a powerful Almighty attack will work the best.

How To Defeat The Devourer Of Stars

Buffs & Debuffs

Skills to use to Defeat the Devourer of Stars in Metaphor ReFantazio

The Prince Archetype is what makes this boss fight work. While you can see that YouTuber secretbunnyninja did without it, this Archetype will make the fight easier. It has synergy with every other Archetype and can resist almost every type of damage. Any Almighty skill and ones that can debuff the enemy or buff your party are also extremely useful.

The Devourer of Star's moves are as follows:

Move

Effect

Miasma Whorl

Limits your party's HP to 300 and may inflict Hex

Great Dragon's Wrath

Buffs Boss Attack

Purple Toxiclaw

Single-target Slash Attack that may inflict Poison

Loathsome Claw

Single-target Slash Attack

Distant Black Howl

Party-wide roar that may inflict Hex

Roar

Debuffs all your party ' stats

Poison Tail

Party-wide Slash that may inflict Poison

Dekunda

Removes debuffs from itself

When the boss is wasting turns buffing itself, you can, in turn, use those skills to make that buff useless. This is where the Commander and Faker lineages can come into play if you choose to use them, as one focuses on buffing the party and one on debuffing the enemy. If you want to use a Healer Archetype instead of one of the ones listed above, you can also use the move Me Patra to remove status effects.

You can try using the Healer Archetype instead of the Persona Master.

Keep using those moves and strong, damaging Almighty attacks when possible. You will need some patience, but you can use these strategies to defeat the Devourer of Stars in Metaphor: ReFantazio.
