Kokamordos, the Terror of the Skies, is one of the bounty bosses found toward the end of Metaphor: ReFantazio. This is unlocked through The Cockatrice in the Clouds bounty, and these bounties are a great way to prepare for the endgame. Defeating this boss will get you closer to the level you need for the final boss and a host of rewards to make your party much stronger.
There are many bosses in Metaphor: ReFantazio, many of which can be difficult depending on your party setup and which Archetypes you have chosen to equip. However, many of these bosses can favor or be weakened by certain Archetypes, so you will want to keep that in mind as you go forward. Here we will show you which party setup is recommended and how to fight Kokamordos efficiently and decisively.
How To Unlock The Cockatrice In The Clouds Bounty
Recruitment Center

Metaphor: ReFantazio Review: A Fantastical Adventure That Redefines JRPGs
Atlus has breached new territory with Metaphor: ReFantazio and in doing so has delivered a high-fantasy JRPG that's unlike anything we could've hoped.
You do not have to be at a particular level, but this is a late-game boss, so be aware of that before you head off to face it. You will have to have flying unlocked in order to reach the location, but that should not be an issue at the point where this fight becomes viable.
How To Prepare For The Cockatrice In The Clouds Bounty
Items & Archetypes
There are a lot of possibilities for using any available Archetypes in Metaphor: ReFantazio for this fight. You have likely fought at least one Cockatrice at this point in the game already, and there is not much variance in of the moves and abilities. You can use what you think are the strongest Archetypes, but we would recommend having at least one party member using the Mage Archetype, as that will allow you to do the most ice-based damage.
Likewise, any weapons you have that have an ice-affinity will be useful, and equip any inherited skills that can give you ice-damage. The Marakukaja Synthesis Skill is also an important skill to keep in your back pocket as a Skill. This skill requires Rakukaja as well, which can keep you alive in this fight as you will see later.
You have to have the Magic Knight unlocked to have Marakukaja, and you need a Seeker, Knight, or Commander Ally to use the Synthesis Skill.
Additionally, Kokamordos will often use moves that can debuff your team if successful, so you will want to keep that in mind going into the battle. You may want to buy items such as Revival Medicine or a Balm of Life as well, as the boss is good at one-hit killing when it wants to be. Gloamhall also has a merchant that sells items that can deal ice-damage, which can be a good boon to you.

Strengths & Weaknesses To Keep In Mind
While there is a lot of flexibility for which of the many playable characters to use in this fight, you will want to keep your eye on the various strengths and weaknesses. Kokamordos is weak to Piercing and Ice damage, while being particularly strong in Fire and Dark damage. With that in mind, choose characters that can handle this particular lineup. However, here are some suggestions:
- Protagonist: Prince Archetype Recommended
- Strohl: High Damage-Dealer, Knight Lineage Recommended
- Any Character With High Magic: Mage Lineage
- Any Character With High Agility: Faker Lineage
As for why these particular pairings, you will want a strong damage-dealer, which Strohl excels at from the beginning of the game. The Mage Lineage will also be able to work with the Prince Archetype by using the Hadean Icecrag Synthesis Skill, giving you even more access to ice-damage. Lastly, the Faker Lineage can be used by any character, but someone with High Agility will be able to go first and put massive debuffs on Kokamordos, which can significantly shorten the fight. You can see this in action in the video from YouTuber Naz talgic.
How To Find Kokamordos Terror Of The Skies
Manor Of The Ascendant
Once you have unlocked the bounty, the Manor of the Ascendant location will open up on your map, where it may also appear as the Principality of Oceana dungeon. You will be able to fly there in one day.

Metaphor: ReFantazio - How To Purify Weapons
You'll occasionally find weapons and armor that can be purified in Metaphor: ReFantazio, but you'll need to unlock this feature before you can use it.
Once inside, you will have to make your way to the fifth floor. It is fairly straightforward to get there once you have arrived, but you will have to go through two crawlspaces on the second floor and, when you get to the room with the portals, the center one will take you onto the third floor. The third floor will be fairly linear, but on the fourth floor, you will want to take any of the southern paths. This will take you to the fifth floor and Kokamordos.
How To Defeat Kokamordos Terror Of The Skies & All Rewards
Strengths & Weaknesses
Kokamordos is a tough boss if you are not expecting it, but you will generally fare well if you avoid characters weak to fire damage. Here are his general strengths and weaknesses:
- Weaknesses: Piercing & Ice Damage
- Strengths: Fire Damage (Immune)
He has a fairly robust move set as well, which you can see in the table below:
Move |
Effect |
---|---|
Dark Breath |
Dark attack to all party . |
Hell Thrust |
Physical attack to one party member that decreases defense. |
Gobouat |
Fire damage to all party . |
Vidyartha |
Sharply lowers one party member’s attack and defense. |
Peck of Death |
Targets an ally without Rakukaja and one-hit kills them. |
Mudodyne |
Dark magic attack to one party member that has a chance of inflicting insta-death. |
You will want to use Marakukaja right away, before dealing as much ice and piercing damage as possible. Keep using Marakukaja as much as possible to keep the party alive, as if you do not have Rakukaja, Kokamordos’ Peck of Death is going to knock the party out one at a time.
Additionally, you will want to keep any debuffs on your party removed, which can be done using Dekunda, or any items that can cure status ailments or debuffs. Keep your party healed as much as possible, and make sure you continue to use moves that the boss is weak to. If you manage that, the fight should be over fairly quickly.
Once it is over, you will have received your reward of 105,000 reeve and four points of Courage. you will have to go back to the Recruitment Centre to turn in the Bounty, which will require the Cockatrice Crest to turn in. You will receive that from the boss fight, as well as a pair of Medic Greaves. And with all that done, you will have completed the Cockatrice in the Clouds bounty and defeated Kokamordos Terror of the Skies in Metaphor: ReFantazio.
