Summary

  • Michael B. Jordan's new vampire movie may be stealing elements from Marvel's Blade reboot, including casting choices.
  • The addition of Delroy Lindo to Jordan and Coogler's vampire movie raises questions about his involvement in Blade.
  • The similarities between Jordan's vampire movie and Blade, including potential period settings, continue to invite comparisons.

Jordan's new vampire movie franchise will look like compared to Marvel's Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali.

Although the two projects are different in various ways, the popularity of Blade as a character and Jordan's starring role as a new Black vampire is where the comparisons begin. It also is worth noting that Jordan's vampire movie is scheduled to begin production only a few months before Blade's development hell ends, and both films are confirmed for 2025 releases. The rapidly moving development of the untitled vampire movie has now brought Delroy Lindo aboard the cast. And it is through this move that Jordan and Coogler may have just stolen from Blade.

Delroy Lindo May Be Making Michael B. Jordan's Vampire Movie Instead Of Blade

The Actor's Involvement In Blade Has Come Into Question

Delroy Lindo's casting in Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler's vampire movie is notable for a variety of reasons. The Da 5 Bloods actor was previously announced to be in talks to the MCU's Blade movie, making him the first co-star revealed opposite Mahershala Ali. However, this announcement was made back in 2021 and before Blade underwent a notable creative overhaul that brought on new writers and a new director. It was still expected that Delroy Lindo would appear in Blade, but his new involvement in Jordan and Coogler's movie might suggest otherwise.

In THR's report of Delroy Lindo's casting opposite Michael B. Jordan, there was no mention of his attachment to the MCU's Blade movie as an project on his schedule. This could mean that Lindo has quietly exited Blade. If this is the case, it would seem Lindo was still interested in ing a vampire movie and found one with Jordan and Coogler. There is a chance Lindo could still be doing both projects, as their production schedules are not expected to overlap. But, the lack of updates on Lindo's MCU role and his new vampire movie role is suspicious.

Aaron Pierre, who was cast in Blade after Delroy Lindo, confirmed in March 2024 that he is no longer involved in the movie after changes were made

Michael B. Jordan's Vampire Movie Casting Delroy Lindo Continues Its Blade Comparison

The MCU Star Keeps Borrowing From Blade

Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger in the Wakandan throne room in Black Panther.

Even if Delroy Lindo does still appear in Blade, his casting still strengthens the similarities between Michael B. Jordan's vampire movie and what will be Mahershala Ali's first solo Marvel movie. The fact that Jordan and Coogler both have histories with Marvel Studios through Black Panther already made them doing a blockbuster vampire film curious. There have even been rumors that Blade will be set in the past, and Jordan and Coogler are doing the same period piece setting for their film. Michael B. Jordan taking an actor already cast in the Marvel movie only invites more comparisons.
