Fox's Role May Be Related To Paul's Parkinson's Diagnosis
Fox's role in Shrinking season 3 is still a tightly kept secret. However, the relationship between the actor and Lawrence provides some hints. Shrinking's co-creator has credited Fox as the inspiration for how the series has approached the topic of Parkinson's Disease (via Variety). Fox was diagnosed with this brain disorder, which, according to the National Institute of Aging, causes "unintended or uncontrollable movements, such as shaking, stiffness, and difficulty with balance and coordination," in 1991. In Shrinking, Ford's character, Dr. Paul Rhoades, was diagnosed with Parkinson's before the events of season 1.

Shrinking season 2 manages to sur season 1 in humor while evolving its characters and their dynamics, keeping things fresh but full of heart.
It seems likely that Fox's role in Shrinking will be related to Paul's diagnosis. Lawrence has gone to great lengths to ensure that the Apple TV+ series accurately represents Parkinson's while bringing levity and comedy to the situation. "I found the first mentor in my life and career, Michael J. Fox, to be so inspiring," Lawrence said, explaining that the actor's hard work and dedication are what he and Goldstein hoped to bring to Shrinking.
