Due to Bethesda and ZeniMax by Microsoft, Xbox is currently poised to release two PlayStation 5 console exclusives in the near future. The blockbuster news of Bethesda ing the Xbox family has gamers everywhere excited about the possibilities for the next generation. With franchises like DOOM, The Elder ScrollsFallout, and the all-important Rogue Warrior now in the Xbox camp and poised for releases on Game , the future looks bright for those purchasing new Xbox consoles this holiday. However, all may not be lost for Sony fans, especially if Microsoft honors the current deals put in place by the publisher before their deal was finalized.

This isn't the first time something like this has happened. Microsoft has been acquiring many studios to bolster its first-party lineup, and many of those studios had games already in production that Microsoft saw through to completion. Obsidian worked with 2K's Private Division label on recently released space RPG The Outer Worlds. Despite Microsoft purchasing the studio before release, the game still went forward everywhere it was planned to go, including PlayStation 4 and the Epic Games Store. This also happened more recently with inXile and the release of Wasteland 3, showing that Microsoft is more than willing to not upend plans already in motion.

Before the earth-shattering announcement posted on stylish, time-bending FPS Deathloop, was even a prominent part of Sony's latest PlayStation 5 showcase. GhostWire: Tokyo, the next game from The Evil Within developers Tango Gameworks, is in the same boat as of now. Both games are aiming for release in 2021, and Microsoft has confirmed that they will be publishing Deathloop and Ghostwire as PlayStation 5 console exclusives per the existing contracts.

In fact, the wording of the press releases surrounding the Bethesda acquisition point to these two releases possibly not being the only games that Microsoft puts out on PlayStation 5 this generation. While it's highly unlikely that Sony would be able to negotiate exclusivity on any future Bethesda titles, Microsoft isn't closing the door on releasing games on PlayStation 5 altogether. They've already released both Minecraft and the more recent Minecraft Dungeons onto Sony's machine, and they've ported several smaller titles to Nintendo Switch this generation. It seems like decisions will come on a game by game basis, although Bethesda fans who want to buy everything should likely invest in some hardware that runs Game .

Xbox acquiring Bethesda for more money than Disney paid for Spider-Man and Luke Skywalker is a monumental happening that will shake things up for years to come. It puts the creators of the first person shooter genre in the same house as Halo. It links Obsidian back up with Fallout, the franchise it made famous. Best of all, it brings tons of franchises to Game , making both new releases and legacy titles accessible to a growing mass of new players. Whether that mass of players ever includes PlayStation 5 owners is still to be seen.
