One of the original Emilio Estevez, Joss Ackland, Lane Smith, Heidi King, Josef Sommer, Joshua Jackson, Elden Henson, and Shaun Weiss. The film had two follow-up sequels, with D2: The Mighty Ducks in 1994 and D3: The Mighty Ducks in 1996.

Now, a post from Weiss gives a nostalgic look at The Mighty Ducks. In the images, Weiss wears his hockey jersey and helmet, and in the last shot, he is in the rink again. He gives a shocked expression to the camera in the selfie image. In his nostalgic caption, Weiss wrote "Last time I skated was the final day of filming D3," in reference to 1996's D3: The Mighty Ducks. In addition to this message, Weiss mentioned that this was part of "working on promos for FunkAway," who he thanked for "giving [him] a reason to lace up."

What This Image Says About The Mighty Ducks' Legacy

The Mighty Ducks Is Well-Liked By Audiences

Weiss is known for playing Goldberg in The Mighty Ducks franchise. When he made his debut in the franchise, Weiss was only 13 years old. Even by the end of the franchise, the 1979-born actor was only 17 years old. This makes playing Goldberg very much a part of Weiss' child acting career, as he was in The Mighty Ducks during his teen years. Now 45 years old, Weiss can endearingly reflect on his time playing Goldberg, over 30 years after making his 1992 debut as the character.

Sports TV shows don't often last long but they are usually high in quality, meaning they make for ideal binge watches over a week or even a weekend.

Beyond ing Goldberg's place in The Mighty Ducks, seeing Weiss suit up again is a great reminder of the lasting impact of the sports film. Though The Mighty Ducks was panned upon its release, the film has appealed to audiences over time. The original The Mighty Ducks movie, for example, has a 23% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, but a 65% among audiences. This shows the generally favorable reviews of The Mighty Ducks, despite its poor critical reception.

The Mighty Ducks was also developed into a two-season Disney+ TV show titled The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.

Why The Mighty Ducks Is Still A Worthwhile Sports Movie Watch

The Mighty Ducks' Comedy Makes It Endearing

Gordon and the Ducks stand on the ice in The Mighty Ducks.

I think one of the reasons why The Mighty Ducks stands up today is in part because of its comedic elements. There are plenty of underdog sports films such as Rudy and Hoosiers, but they often exist more in the drama space. The Mighty Ducks franchise may be goofy at times, but its comedy gives it an endearing quality that allows it to be a fun watch today. Cast like Weiss clearly still feel a love for the project, making watching The Mighty Ducks in the present day even more appealing.
