Seth MacFarlane's overlooked comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West reused a classic Family Guy joke. While MacFarlane's feature film debut Ted was a massive success, earning just under $550 million worldwide against an estimated budget of $50 million and becoming the twelfth highest-grossing film of 2012, his 2014 western parody flopped. A Million Ways to Die in the West earned just $87 million worldwide against a $40 million budget and earned a critic score of just 33% on Rotten Tomatoes.

While Ted continues to be a successful franchise for MacFarlane after Ted 2 (2015) performed well at the box office and Family Guy season 23 is expected to be released in 2025.

A Million Ways to Die in the West is streaming now on Netflix.

A Million Ways To Die In The West's "Mila Kunis" Joke Was Already Done In Family Guy's "It's A Trap" Episode

Seth MacFarlane reused an old Family Guy joke in his comedy western movie

Family Guy and MacFarlane fans will be able to spot one particular Family Guy joke in A Million Ways to Die in the West. During A Million Ways to Die in the West, MacFarlane's character is speaking in another language and the translation on screen says "Fine!" but he says "Mila Kunis" out loud. This exact same joke occurred in the Star Wars-themed Family Guy season 9, episode 18 titled "It's a Trap" when Jabba the Hut was speaking. He said "Mila Kunis" out loud and it translated to something else.

Despite MacFarlane's western comedy failing to impress critics or make an impression at the box office, A Million Ways to Die in the West has several hilarious moments. Now that it's streaming on Netflix, the film could find a modern revival and could even generate more interest in MacFarlane's new Ted series which was recently renewed for another season. While there likely won't be A Million Ways to Die in the West sequel, MacFarlane could be inspired to direct another feature film soon.

Why Seth MacFarlane Reuses His Mila Kunis Joke In A Million Ways To Die In The West

Kunis has voiced Meg in Family Guy since 1999

Family Guy classic image with family sitting on the couch

MacFarlane shouting out Mila Kunis in two different projects of his is not as random as it may seem considering that Kunis has voiced Meg in Family Guy since 1999. This means that the two celebrated actors have been working together for a long time and Kunis was probably aware of the joke before A Million Ways to Die in the West was released. MacFarlane could extend the joke even further by including it in another future episode of Family Guy or Ted. Kunis is not featured in A Million Ways to Die in the West, but the film still pays homage both to her and Family Guy.
