One enchantments give various improvements to a character’s gear, providing a better chance against the many mobs in the game. Enchantments have come a long way through various updates, with Mojang offering new and improved enchantment types that bring more utility to the game. Updates have brought enchantment types such as soul speed, which enhances a player’s ability to traverse soul sand. With higher player levels, enchantment tables can gift higher-level enchantments, however, there is always a limit.
While plug-ins and mods can add god-like abilities to Minecraft, the Vanilla version has a cap on enchantments, which means a player cannot achieve a higher level than what is pre-determined for that enchantment. For Fire Aspect, players can only achieve Fire Aspect II. For Looting, the highest level is Looting III. And as for Smite, which gives a sword increased damage against undead mobs, the highest level achievable is Smite V. With a Netherite sword enchanted with Smite V, a player will deal 20.5 damage to an undead mob if the attack is fully charged and the target is not wearing armor. There is not supposed to be a higher level of enchantment than that.
Reddit Among_Us_Memes, however, posted a picture that shows a Smite VII enchant on an enchanted book, which would be otherwise impossible on a Vanilla survival world without the use of commands. The player claimed they had no idea why they were able to achieve a Smite VII enchant and asked the Minecraft community how it was even possible. The enchantment was meant for their Netherite tools and when they enchanted the book to be Smite V, it showed as Smite VII instead. Still, when they added the enchantment via Anvil onto their Netherite sword, the enchantment reverted to Smite V.
The Smite VII enchantment was likely a visual glitch, showing a higher level enchantment than was actually enchanted to the book. When the anvil applied the enchantment to the Netherite sword, it reverted to the proper level and thus the visual glitch was eliminated. However, it is also possible that Smite VII was achieved through combining Smite books long enough to increase the enchantment book to the god-level enchant, which can happen in Vanilla Minecraft. However, when adding the book to an anvil and applying the enchantment to a sword, it reverted to what the developers coded as the highest enchant possible.
While Smite VII would be extremely valuable against an army of zombies, Smite V on a Netherite sword can effectively kill most undead mobs in one to two hits, depending on the armor equipped. So, Smite VII is likely unnecessary.
Minecraft is available on the Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Android, and iOS platforms.
