Spring to Life, the newest update to Minecraft, adds new decorations and visual style to the game. These additions include new cold and warm biome variants of cows, pigs, and chickens, alongside more ambient features like falling leaves and firefly bushes that light up at night. This update also brought new designs for spawn eggs, the items used mostly in creative mode that allow players to instantly spawn in any mob in the game.
With this new Minecraft update bringing more visual excitement to the game, there’s still one major item type that desperately needs attention: enchanted books. Despite the huge range of enchantments, most of which include multiple levels of strength, every enchanted book looks exactly the same. Since Minecraft is going back to improve older items, the enchanted book should be next in line.
Minecraft’s Spring To Life Update Massively Improved Spawn Eggs
Each Egg Takes On Unique Characteristics
Of all the new changes in Minecraft’s Spring to Life update, special new textures for spawn eggs were one of the most interesting ones. To date, spawn eggs have always been simple eggs with splotches of color to match their corresponding mobs in Minecraft, like cows having a brown egg with gray highlights to match a cow’s coat and horns. Now, spawn eggs will be much more visually distinct and therefore easier to choose while navigating an item menu, which is a welcome change after years of mixing up similar eggs in creative mode.

Minecraft’s New Ghast Makes This Item Even More Frustrating
The newest Minecraft mob, the Happy Ghast, is an exciting addition, but its craftable saddle highlights how annoying other items are to obtain.
Each new spawn egg is unique in color and design, vaguely resembling the faces of their mobs, though each will still retain the classic egg shape. For example, bees have a yellow egg with brown stripes on the bottom, accented with wings on either side. Slime spawn eggs are now entirely green with drippy accents and Creepers have a speckled green egg with the classic Creeper face on the front. These changes are fun and well-deserved, as they bring more visual interest and variety to Minecraft.
Enchanted Books Need A Visual Update
Every Book Looks The Same Despite Different Enchantments
Making spawn eggs easier to find in the menu is fantastic, especially since so many had similar color palettes. However, there is another item type that deserves a visual update even more. Enchanted books are in dire need of refurbishment, as every single different enchantment provides the same purple sheen to a book. Before their update, spawn eggs were at least slightly visually different, which made them easier to spot. Enchanted books have always all looked exactly the same, despite all providing radically different benefits.
In light of the recent spawn egg changes, enchanted books should receive the same treatment to make them easier to sort through. Creating enchanted books can be a challenge when starting a new Minecraft server, but the real challenge begins when players start to fill their chests with their enchanted books. Navigating through a chest of enchanted books to find whatever is needed at the time is both time-consuming and frustrating, especially since there are over forty different enchantment types that all look the same, most of which have multiple levels of strength.
Each Enchantment Type Deserves A Special Look In Minecraft
Unique Covers And Details Would Improve Enchanted Books
To make each enchantment and all their levels more visually distinct, Minecraft should give enchanted books an update similar to spawn eggs. Each different enchantment could give its book a special cover that becomes more elaborate as the enchantment levels rise. Since each enchantment is so distinct, ranging from armor protection to enhancing weapons, it would be easy to give each one a special style to make them easier to pick out, just like how spawn eggs got their own unique mob styles.

Minecraft Texture Pack Takes Enchanted Books To Another Level
An all-new, fan-made texture pack enhances Minecraft's otherwise lacklustre enchanting books and adds some much-needed content to the mechanic.
Enchanted books should each get their own unique cover or style. Easy ideas would be Feather Falling as a book covered in feathers, with each increasing level becoming even more feathered. The Thorns enchantment and its levels could be a book covered in thorns, while Bane of Arthropods could gain more spider-like features with every level by adding more legs and eyes. Some enchantments in Minecraft are slightly similar, like Fire Aspect (sets melee targets on fire) and Flame (sets ranged targets on fire with arrows), but even then, their use is different enough to warrant different covers.
